Using Adblock Plus and still seeing an ad? Not to worry, we are here to help! Here's some information you can send over to help us get things sorted.

1.Let us know where you are experiencing ads ie: example URLs
2.Which browser are you using with Adblock Plus?
3. Send a screenshot of the ad, so we know exactly where the ads are placed.
4. What filter lists are you using? (excluding Safari Users)
Yesterday Youtube started playing ads on my latest update chrome browser after years of being ad free. I have no filters other than the presets and have changed nothing. Attached is the screenshot.

This just started for me today, the 21st of March, 2020.

URL: any youtube video
Browser: Google Chrome Version 80.0.3987.149 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Windows 8.1
Where: main video area
Filters: ABP filters (just updated now, had error message before, still not blocking youtube video ads), Adblock Warning Removal List, EasyList, EasyPrivacy

It's related to the Google account thing where I've recently been getting a play error on YT and have to refresh the video to get it to play or wait about 20 seconds. That error is strictly on the Google account end. I believe it is part of Google's anti-circumvention for people who don't watch ads. I switched to uBlock Origin and the ad problem has been fixed, but still get the YT error. At least that's just a refresh to fix it, rather than the 2 full 30 second ads I started getting with ABP.

Thank you for that note, JosefR.

I too was seeing the grey playback error for a few days before this happened. I've just added uBlock Origin (3 adblockers installed now lol) and indeed I see no ads! It's back to the grey playback error but that's fine in comparison.

Thanks again!

It's on ABP to fix the problem. Until then, my ads are still blocked.

There's currently no indication that this is an attempt by YouTube to circumvent Adblock Plus. Such problems usually occur when a website changes and ad blocking filters no longer match which would also explain why other adblockers have the same problem because every adblocker is using the same filters.

If you're interested, a few days ago, I've replied to an existing discussion about this problem so feel free to check it out.

So it's just a coincidence that my account is having errors viewing videos AND ABP has quit working?
Yes, all those people in the other thread are having the same issue, although none of them accurately described what the error says.
uBlock Origin is working just fine at blocking the ads.

It's difficult to say what's the reason in that particular case without any further information, as you already mentioned. Filter list updates can break but also fix problems and, since different adblockers use different filter lists, the behavior of one may differ from another, even if they both use the same ad blocking engine. Different adblocking engines could lead to further differences in behavior, similar to how browser engines differ from each other.

All of that considered, it could indeed be that even a single filter could lead to video playback errors in one adblocker and/or unblocked ads in another. Depending on what causes the problem, we may expect the former, the latter or both. But at this point, the cause is still unclear and so is how we think the extension should behave.

A day after switching to uBlock Origin, I am now no longer getting the playback error. So either YT fixed my account problem (highly unlikely), or uBlock Origin is responsible for videos now playing properly.

There are certain ads that ad blocker plus is not blocking.
