I've lost my tool bar icon and I can't access general preferences anymore, only "add filters".
The "add on's" drop down menu says ABP is "active" but i can't access my one click dropdown to block all ads on a site etc.
I have a PPC Mac and was happily using ABplus.
I had a the "stop sign" in the toolbar, and was able to click it, and have a dropdown menu allow me to "disable on this page only",and "disable on "xyz.com" etc.
A few days ago, working late & too quickly, I inadvertantly opened a preferences menu & in trying to close it, selected "remove adblock from toolbar....
And away it went.
Now I can't get it back.
Remember on a mac, only filter preferences show up in the "preferences box". General preferences don't.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled adblock,
restarted etc etc., but the toolbar icon AND the menu bar dropdown (where I think the "real" general preferences was does not show... just the add a filter window.
I had a nice set of filters that worked great.
I've saved all files that I could find containing the word "adblock" by searching the finder.
(adblockplus.js, and nsAdblockPlus.js)
as well as the general profile.
I assume my list of filters is somewhere also.
All I want to do is re-enable the tool bar icon so I can quickly block unblock again.
How can I make the toolbar icon return?
Thanks in advance.
Tom

1. Open your filter preferences window.
2. ABP options should be located at the top like in the screenshot.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
My screen looks nothing like the screen shot you linked.
I should add I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 & Firefox 2.0.0.17 because of compatability problems with Firefox 3.
I don't know if they rebuilt the GUI for version 3, but the problem is deeper than just that.
The dropdown menu had a check selection preference that opened a box that allowed you to choose whether adblock should appear in the tool bar or at the bottom of the window etc.
It used to be there, and it isn't anymore.
Uninstalling and reinstalling has made no difference.
This suggests to me there is a preference file that still remained AFTER removal that keeps the icon from being displayed.
I even opened the adblockplus.js file mentioned n my first post in BB-edit, and saw a line that said pref("extensions.adblockplus.showintoolbar", true);
But I saw nothing there about the icon.
That's the problem.
There is currently no "filter" menu, there never was in my version... there is only a "Tools" menu bar item showing in firefox, and adblock only appears as a selection which opens the filters window.
There used to be an icon and something in the "tools" drop-down that allowed the general preferences of the GUI to be accessed.
That's my problem.

Are you sure you followed my instruction to the point?
Did you really do point 1 before point 2?

well, this is strange, but while waiting, I changed some values in the js file and now when I open filter preferences the menu NOW shows the screenshot you linked me to.
I don't know what I did, but it changed something.
Now I can see the options, and I just reset them.
So thanks!
Now, how do I reimport the filter rules I removed?
Do i just restore the adblock folder I removed from application support/firefox/profiles etc...?
Are the filter rules stored in the original Adblockplus folder, now on my desktop... with the "patterns-backup1.ini" files?
.....
update:
just answered my own question.
I replaced the folder and now all the rules are back.
Problem now appears solved.
Thanks very very much for all your help.
