this message keeps coming up in IE11 using latest v1.1 even though display mixed content is enabled when I disable ABP this messae goes away, its been annoying me for months now, is there any sign of an update?

That same issue was reported earlier.

There was no reply from the Adblock Plus team.
And no update to fix that issue was mentioned yet.
