I don't have the patience to read the whole forum to determine if my problems are common....
So, here are some anecdotes.
Couple of days back, FF adBlockPlus died.Just disappeared.
Nowhere to be found.
Downloaded and re-installed.
Then I lost ALL of my bookmarks. Links bar, too.
Have been busy, ever since, finding the important ones and re-entering them.
Couple of days before that, I downloaded an update of ABP.
Lost all the filters and had to find them, again.
A few weeks earlier, I downloaded another version of ABP.....my desktop shortcuts stopped working.
Reported it and they issued a fix.
Starting to think it isn't worth the hassle.
Only place I had ad problems was a regular forum that used adBrite
And, since they dumped adbrite, the loading problems are over.
Yeah.....might dump ABP.
Or am I doing something wrong?
OK, an old bloke who didn't learn this stuff at my mum's breast.

Sounds like you have a big problem - but I don't think Adblock Plus is it. Your Firefox profile gets corrupted on a regular basis, and I don't really know where you should start looking for the cause. I can only tell you that what you see is not the usual behavior.
Usual suspects: antivirus/firewall programs, hard drive issues (run chkdsk from command line to check), memory issues (use some memory tester like Memtest86).
