Suggestion for program / icon behaviour

Post by Guest »

Hello, I'd like to suggest a new feature to AdBlock+, sometimes when watching eg. tv or video sites that require ads to be viewed, and whitelisting the domain don't cure the issue (prolly because of 3rd party ads-urls), it's handy to disable AdBlock+ for tv/video viewing time. But the icon disappears from browser toolbar (using Opera) when AdBlock+ is disabled. So my request is that could an option be added to AdBlock+ preferences, that the icon could instead of disappearing be left there but for example grayed out? Then it would be easy to switch back on. A lot handier than going to manage extensions and enable it from there.

Thank you for reading. I hope this gets considered.

It already works that way in Opera 15.0.

In Opera 12.15, the Adblock Plus extension itself is disabled, so the icon goes away.

Oh ok. Opera 15? U mean Next? Maybe I should try it..

I find AdBlock+ tremendous and fantastic as it truly blocks adds on web pages.

But I have encountered a problem, not a bug, but a problem, as I wrote above, those websites - for example TV network sites or newspaper (printed, broadsheet, tabloid) websites that have video content including into a news article ~ those videos doesn't show up, obviously because those sites require video ad(s) to be viewed before the news video can hit in, same with the TV network sites.

Now, I dunno what could be the cure for this. Whitelisting doesn't help much, as it brings back all ads on those sites, and video feeds still don't work ~ obviously because of 3rd party (url) ad fetches.

Anyone have an idea?

I was thinking should I try basic AdBlock... maybe it's not that restricted.

However, excluding above, AdBlock+ is a tremendous ad blocker.

It installs separately and it doesn't modify your regular Opera profile.

Start a new thread about the issue in the Filters for Adblock Plus forum. Mention
  • Your browser and version.
  • Your version of Adblock Plus.
  • The filter lists you're subscribed to.
  • A description of the problem and the link to the page in question.

AdBlock uses the same filter syntax as Adblock Plus. From what I can see on the description page, it even uses EasyList to block ads. Unless you subscribe to different filter lists, it's unlikely you'll notice any difference in what's blocked and what isn't.
