does adblockplus work through web proxys?
does adblockplus work through web proxys?
i own http://send2source.net and am considering making ads appear if the user is not registered but i need to know if adblock will still work on adverts behind a web proxy?
Re: does adblockplus work through web proxys?
It still does work: In particular, it blocks and hides the ads that Anonymouse delivers to free users.
Notably, however, it may fail to block certain ads delivered from sites the users access behind the proxy, because the URLs will be different and generally unpredictable.
You may (if you haven't already) wish to test what portion of your users have ad-blocking software installed, by loading a piece of content from a URL certain to trigger a block, and having an element on the page certain to be hidden, and testing how many people block or hide compared to how many do neither; you can compare server logs for the page the test content is on (probably the main page) to determine blocking, and you can use Javascript to determine hiding (keep counts of how many times the element is shown at its proper height vs. zero height).
I predict, as Anonymouse apparently has, that it still pays to run ads for unregistered users, because the great majority still don't block ads.

There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.
