After installing Adblock plus into the latest version of Firefox on my Win7 computer hoping to get rid of the Google ads, I stopped receiving spam messages in Gmail. (The mail box is showing, but it has remained empty.)
I didn't think Adblock plus would eliminate Gmail spam altogether! Some messages that I need end up in spam; I do need to check it daily. I checked every Gmail mailbox; it is nowhere to be found.
To try to unblock my spam email messages:
I deleted Adblock plus from Firefox.
I uninstalled Firefox.
I checked Chrome add-ins and discovered Adblock was there as well; I removed the add-in. No improvement, so I uninstalled Chrome (and am using IE).
Still no spam messages.
I tried forwarding all of my Gmail messages to my Yahoo account. (I don't actually know that Gmail forwards spam with other email.) Other mail arrived in my Yahoo account from Gmail, but no spam messages.
I deleted all of my filters and created one so that all incoming mail would go to my inbox, as per instructions I found online:
Matches: from:(*)
Do this: Never send it to Spam
No spam messages arrived in my inbox.
I havie been using IE since uninstalling Firefox and Chrome, and don't know if it is infected with Adblock as well. I searched for Adblock plus on my computer, and deleted all files containing that name.
Still no spam messages are arriving. Or have all the Gmail spammers suddenly gone on vacation for the last 48 hours? I usually receive 200+ spam emails per day.
I don't know what else to try. It appears that Adblock plus managed to change something in my Gmail account. Any suggestions?

No. No way.lsonna wrote:It appears that Adblock plus managed to change something in my Gmail account.
Adblock Plus can
- Prevent content from loading (i.e. block stuff).
- Hide content from view.

In case of suspected problems, right-clicking the Adblock Plus icon, choosing Disable Everywhere, then reloading the page, would have been sufficient to determine if Adblock Plus was blocking something it shouldn't.
If that were the case, you could've then right-clicked the icon and chosen Report Issue on This Page to let the filter subscription authors know about the problem.

Re: All Gmail spam emails have disappeared
@Gingerbread Man: Thank you for the thorough explanation. Marking as Invalid, this definitely has nothing to do with Adblock Plus.
