AdBlock and AdBlock Plus Stopping Chrome Loading Pages??

I had the same problem reported above, my Win10 Chrome browser could not connect this morning.

My e-mail and everything else was working OK.

Microsoft Edge browser worked perfectly until I imported my profile details from Chrome, including the AB plus and other extensions, it then stopped working.

Disabling AB plus in either browser resolves the problem.

Good luck fixing this, AB Plus makes life worth living.

That's good to know, even though not being able to access the settings page and the extension being busy (i.e. 100% CPU) makes it quite a bit more difficult to determine the source of and fix the problem.

About an hour ago, we reverted a recent change in the "ABP filters" list. While it's not clear yet whether it's related to this issue, feel free to check if there's any difference by installing Adblock Plus in a new browser profile or by uninstall and reinstalling Adblock Plus.

In the meantime, we're continuing to attempt to reproduce the problem on our end and to see how we could get more information about its origin.

Uninstalled, reinstalled - that seems to have fixed it, I can load pages again and ads are being blocked (and as gtb said, what an awful place the internet is without ABP!)

Same issues as many other have already reported here.

I too have removed ABP and then reinstalled it and all sites appear now to be working.

The only remaining issue I have is being unable to access the ABP Options page, which appears to be in a persistent "loading" state.

In order to prevent further users being exposed to this problem, we have removed some anti-circumvention filters. We're also going to continue investigating the cause of it so that we can properly fix it.

It's still unclear whether disabling the "ABP filters" filter list (or manually forcing filter list updates using the "Update all filter lists" button in the Advanced tab of the settings page) is sufficient so any feedback on that would be helpful, in case you are able to open the settings page. Also, there are some reports that the issue could be related to Facebook so, if you remember which websites you had open when the problem first appeared, please let us know.

I can state that I didn't have any sites open when I first experienced the problem this morning. I had just powered up my laptop, launched Chrome and was trying to navigate to a News site, bbc.co.uk/news which wasn't loading. I think the Facebook link may be a red-herring.

Ok, so - like the others, I started this morning from cold, just tried to launch bbc.co.uk

I uninstalled and reinstalled ABP earlier (as reported) and all was fine, pages loaded again.

I've just gone to https://www.topcashback.co.uk/home and a message popped up telling me I was blocking ads and that this may affect their tracking (they monitor clicks to websites for cashback purposes, I assume) and asked if I wanted to add their whitelist - which I have in the past (months ago) without problem

I clicked yes and it came up with the ABP settings page - immediately, all sites were blocked again - just coming up with "Processing request" , and the settings page was unresponsive.

I disabled the extension in Chrome, all pending pages loaded. I then re-enabled ABP, and pages were loading - literally one minute later, nope - back to "Processing request"

Cannot access the ABP Options either

Anything you want me to poke before I uninstall/reinstall again?

Thanks for the steps, we'll give it a try ourselves.

One more thing I'd like you to try, if you don't mind, is disabling/removing the "ABP filters" filter list and then reloading to extension to see whether the problem persists. If that doesn't work, it'd be great if you could repeat that with the other filter lists such as EasyList and "Allow nonintrusive advertising" one after the other.

If the problem is still there, even without any filter list left, the only other option I can see for now is for you to send us a copy of your browser's user profile. But since that may contain sensible data, it's usually best to do that with a new browser profile, if you can also reproduce the problem there.

This started for me this morning. I removed adblocker plus and reinstalled and it worked fine. I added the white list for Rakuten and still everything seemed fine. I added the whitelist for TOPCASH BACK and everything stops. Could it be tied to a single white list? I just removed that list and I am working still with no issues. Just a thought.

We're now able to reliably reproduce the issue. Indeed, it looks like a filter in that list is what triggers this problem so please avoid adding this filter list, while we are working on a fix for it.

Ha, looks like I'm late to the party, but I have come to the same conclusion - it's the custom list that has killed it.

Well, I typed this up, so I may as well post the thing!

There definitely seems to be a delay in the non-loading of pages. I just re-enabled ABP, and bingo - the first 3 or 4 sites I opened loaded fine. After that, back to Processing Request...

When it's first re-enabled, I can access the Options page with a right-click on the ABP icon. I have de-selected the ABP Filters, and - sites are still blocking.

I've then de-selected ABP Filters and EasyList - same again, first couple of sites open fine then they all just stop opening.

Then deselected those plus the "Top Cash Back Adblock Whitelist" (so there's now nothing selected) and sites all load fine. 

Re-enabled EasyList too - again, seems to be fine

Re-enabled the "Top Cash Back Adblock Whitelist" - all sites are blocking again, but I literally can't get back in to settings now to turn it off!

(I think I'll have to uninstall/reinstall just to get rid of this TCB list, as settings is just not having it!)

So, it appears the external list may be what has broken it for me - not sure if anyone else who's had/having the same issue has any custom lists installed?

We have identified the part of the code that was responsible for it and have implemented a fix (see core#230), which is currently being tested to make sure it works as expected and doesn't break other parts. Next up, we're going to push out an update for it soon after testing has finished.
