I have a very similar issue with a site here in New Zealand. The site owner has been optimising his site for some time, and recently one of his optimisations broke quite a lot of functionality on his site.

We load the discussions as a javascript call, so we can reload it every few minutes, without the need of a user initiated page refresh. What I've done this morning is just enable a Javascript Async load feature across the site, so I guess AdBlock is thinking this is an ad and blocking the whole thing.

My suggestion is to either disable AdBlock or change your profile setttings to make it a manual refresh.

Obviously his suggestion is to disable adblock, because as it is now, not only are the ads blocked, but several live update components on the page, as well as the search function. I have confirmed with the site owner that he has no plans to modify his optimmisations to allow this functionality to work with Adblock plus enabled, so I'm hoping ht can be addressed here

On the front page, there are a number of boxes that won't load. I just confirmed now that an unlogged in visitor can see the elements with adblock plus disabled (Trending Discussions Now, Discussions etc) while with adblock plus enabled, you just get a box with the following text on the right hand side

"If you don't see discussions automatically updating here, make sure javascript is enabled, your firewall is not blocking scripts or you are not using an ad blocker. You can disable the automatic update and see the static page by changing your user profile. "

Also note that the search function is busted (returns no results) if adblock plus is enabled.

In fact, the site owner has published a bloog post describing what's happened and why his performance changes have had the unintended consequence of damaing site functionality when an ad blocker is being used.
