Another Twitch Anti Adblock Plus measure

Could be region specific as some viewers don't get any ads, but I personally use adblock plus with the following up to date subscriptions: EasyList, Malware Domains, EasyPrivacy and EasyList Germany+EasyList
Also have the option to 'Allow some non-intrusive advertisement' unchecked.

Besides ABP, I use Ghostery with up to date tracker and have all the trackers selected:


In both ABP and Ghostery I don't have any personal filters.

The only ad I get is the Type 3 ad (the newer one that you can close). I don't get the black screen ad.
I'm using the latest Chrome version.

One of the Type 3 ad-trigger is "pubads.g.doubleclick.net" (http://pubads.g.doubleclick.net/*), so maybe adding this to your own filter in ABP triggers the type 3 ad, thus getting rid of the unclosable black-screen ad. But like I said, it could be region specific so this might not help.

I tested your setup, DeadlySoul, and I am just getting the "error ad" now, as opposed to the black screen.

I live in the eastern United States.

And I am using Pale Moon 64-bit (basically Firefox), so it's doing the same thing on Chrome and Firefox.

I wonder why they can't reproduce this issue on their end.

I tried also ghostery but nothing changed.The same black box.
Greece here...I also got greek easy list but nothing changed.(plus all others)
Don't know what else i can do.

What I'm finding odd is that the devs supposedly cannot reproduce the black screen or the error ad.

I honestly don't know what to do at this point other than stop watching Twitch. :\

Hmm weird.. Have you tried loging out and back in and/or clearing your cookies?. That's the only other option I can think of. Maybe check Twitch forums as it seems like quite a few people have the black ad issue.

Also, what happens when you disable ABP/Ghostery/NoScript/etc.. (whatever you have)? Do you still get the black ad?

It just happened to me again.

I reported it through the ABP addon.

And this time I'm only using EasyList. NOTHING else. There is nothing on my browser that should be conflicting with ABP.

How is that possible MonztA? All one has to do is watch a partnered/subscriber based stream and eventually they'll run an ad and suiton's example on Page 3 of this thread occurs. There's one streamer I watch consistently in which this occurs...http://www.twitch.tv/tlozsr. When he announces he's going to run an ad, suiton's example occurs like clockwork.

Come to think of it MonztA, Twitch's ads are region based. VIewers in the US usually see them but not other countries. You'd need someone from the team who's US based to see and determine this issue.

I'm still getting the "we had a problem loading this ad for you" error. I'm in the UK and I have all my subscriptions updated.

I'm in the US and I keep getting the black screen of sub-begging doom.

That has to be the most annoying anti-adblock measure ever.

I might note I've tried this in Firefox and Chrome (with NPAPI disabled and PPAPI enabled) and still get the black screen ad.

If you have Ghostery on top of ABP, you will get that 30-second error ad that you can just click off.

Also, MonztA, you said you were on a US VPN. I am guessing you were on it to test the streams?

It's not happening with all streams, mind you... just the ones whose streamers are participating in that ad test phase that someone posted a blog about earlier. Towelliee, for example, is not participating in said test and there are absolutely no ads popping up in his stream. However, if you go to KingKongor, KungenTV, DatModz, Ducksauce -- among a litany of others, it happens. Might not be instantaneously, but something pushes around ABP eventually and the black screen ad cuts in. Sometimes it pops up 1 minute into the stream and other times it pops up 20 minutes into the stream. It's rather erratic, honestly.

I stand corrected.

It DOES happen on Towelliee's stream. It just took a while. And I've already submitted a new report via Firefox about this issue. But here it is in Chrome -- in all its glory: the black screen ad.
