AdblockPlus is better than NoScript.

Post by ecjs »

Noscript uses a preemptive list while AdblockPlus with the $script command lets us use a blacklist.

For instance, I can block scripts on allocine.fr using
allocine.fr$script
and I am still able to use javascripts on other sites. This was impossible using NoScript.

I'm not sure many people know about this feature.

NoScript does what it should -> block scripts completely.

NoScript also has a development build now that does allow blocking of sites (blacklisting) along with some other features. Might want to check that out.

I'm not saying NoScript over ADP, by no means, I'm saying NoScript WITH ADP is the way to go. They both do different things well. But each to their own, of course.

PS Yes, I've been back and forth with NoScript, but so many vulnerabilities with browsers (including almost all that are in Firefox) are because of javascript, Java, or Flash, which Noscript does a good job of taking care of.

I mean there's no way to block automatically external scripts.
For example, if I'm in www.house.com , it's impossible to block automatically (= without creating a filter) scripts like ad.blabla.com .

But WP is aware of this eventual feature, and was waiting for a TLD list. In Firefox 3.0, there should be this list. But maybe, it won't be enought...

ecjs, Adblock Plus cannot block scripts that are embedded into the page. That's different from NoScript.

And pirlouy is talking about http://adblockplus.org/blog/recognizing ... ty-content. Only that it should work in browsers older than Firefox 3.0 as well, just not as precise.
