Ads pop up after BetterSurf is deleted
Ads pop up after BetterSurf is deleted
So I recently discovered a program called BetterSurf which is an advertisement...."giver" (I cant think of the correct term right now). It appears that people don't know where it comes from but the problem is, is it is linked to other malware folders that are some how put onto your computer, again no one really knows how as of Nov 14, 2013. I followed some tutorials and completely removed it from my PC. This is the tutorial I used. http://www.thecraftynerd.com/2013/11/14 ... ettersurf/ Now up until this point AdBlock Plus has blocked ever advertisement from all sites I've visited for months, but after I uninstalled BetterSurf and its accompanying folders immediately I had ads showing up on most websites I use such as Youtube and Yahoo. I uninstalled and reinstalled AdBlock Plus and it didn't change. I might be dumb and missed something like a Firefox update or AdBlock update, but Im just asking to see if the BetterSurf gang has messed with AdBlock as well.

Re: Ads pop up after BetterSurf is deleted
I just went through this last night.
I put up a new website with a RevSlider and BetterSurf was posting ads to it. I was mad.
What it is, is a program on your HDD. It has three folders in it one for IE, one for Chrome and another for Firefox. It installs plugins or extensions to your browsers. Not too long ago it would ask permission to install, but it no longer does this.
As far as I can tell, it is just an ad spammer, but when you look at the plugin/extension in your browser it claims to make surfing better, no other explanation.
Do a search. As it is hidden in your app data folder you will have to make all folders visible in your folder options of your control panel first. then do a search and delete the results one by one from the results window. Then to be sure check your browser plug ins to make sure it went away.
This cleared it up for me.
I would love to know where it came from, and wish their office was close to my house. I would visit them if it were! I hate these kind of scumbags!!!

BTW BetterSurf will disappear from Firefox and Chrome - which you can delete extension - but not from IE. It will be disabled and unavailable though, after you delete it from your HDD.

Re: Ads pop up after BetterSurf is deleted
I ran Malware bytes, which removed 40 bad guys, then removed Bettersurf from the installed extensions list manually.
All seems to be well now.

Seems to not be an ABP issue.
