Blocking ads created for display with Adobe Flash Player 9
Blocking ads created for display with Adobe Flash Player 9
How can ads created to be displayed with Adobe Flash Player 9 be blocked?
The web site link is .....
http://www.friday-ad.co.uk
More specifically, when entering a search the banner ad in the top of the web site appears which cannot be blocked.
http://www.friday-ad.co.uk/SearchResult ... mit=Search
I have checked the forum and tried the suggestions there but ......
1) There is no address for the banner itself to block it. Right clicking the image only gives Adobe options and printing.
2) I tried to find the overlay referred to in another posting 'Can't get rid of Flash ads' but that did not seem to relate to this issue.
Have you any ideas how to get rid of this?
By the way I am not any good at writing filters myself.
Kind regards,
David

Rick's Easylist blocks it. If you click the link it will bring up an install box. If you have recent adblock plus installed. It's a filterset.
Edit: Sorry didn't realize the area this was in. I'm sure someone will post a filter that will help you though.

Easylist is already installed
Hello IceDogg,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Easylist is already installed and up to date but it does not block it.
I noticed a posting where it said Cedrics list had white listed something or other so I have deleted that filter list completely.
Since then I can now get the location of the Image Location which is ......
http://servedby.advertising.com/site=00 ... s=1/optn=1
Where do I go from here?

Ads change all the time by hitting the search button
Update on my last post.
It was just one ad I could not get the source for.
The rest I can get by right clicking. The reference to Cedrics list was a bit irrelevant I think.
It is going to be problem blocking so many different constantly changing ads!

Rick's list (easylist) blocks the "ads" for me. Don't know if you think the site graphics are ads too or not, but it blocked all the flash. I just updated the list to make sure something hadn't changed. Still works for me. Sorry I couldn't help you.

Are the filters that hit on that site.

Easylist does not block Flash
Hello IceDogg,
Thanks for having another look.
I am clear what are site graphics and what is Flash.
Easylist does not block these Flash banners.
Can I just explain that when you first log in to the site there is no Flash advertising. Perhaps you had not applied a search. Its only when you apply a search that Flash starts to appear in the top right replacing the text 'Keeping Britain Local' ......
1) Keyword - Mercedes Cars
Hit Search - Flash Ad - Free Range Students - National Express
2) Keyword - Christmas Presents
Hit Search - Flash Ad - Capital One
Different ads will appear each time you hit the search button.

The ad at the top is adjuggler which is blocked properly for me - EasyList should block it as well. On the other hand, the ads are regular animated images and not Flash in my case, so maybe these ads are different depending on where you are. Still, blocking the main adjuggler script should work fine, maybe you whitelisted it somehow...
Adjuggler is enabled
Hello Wladimir,
Thank you for your reply.
I checked that adjuggler is enabled in easylist so what will still be causing the problem?
I am assuming that if I would have white listed it (and I do not remember ever doing so) then it would not have a green dot in the enabled list.
Is this correct?
Friday Ad is very much a UK site so I guess that is why you get the ads appearing differently.

I hadn't thought of different ads appear depending on your location. That could very well be it.
davemab, if you whitelisted the site the green dot will still be there the whitelist filter will be a separate filter entirely. But it will have the sites name and will be in a different area, not in easylist. It should appear under exception rules and the entire filter will be green. Will have @@ in front. Hope that helps.
But I think like WP said you are getting different ads.

White listing is part of the answer
Hello IceDogg,
We are nearly there. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with a bit of tutorial.
These are the white listings for FridayAd but none refer to adjuggler .....

I do not khow how these white listings came to be there. Probably because I have to allow certain images to appear to place an advert. Perhaps it is to do with confirmation emails that come through Yahoo that block images. I have to allow the images in Yahoo to re-order the ad again. I do not know. Its all so complicated!
You are right in that every time you click the search button in Friday Ad you get another Flash Banner.
Thanks again.

Banners
Would this one have anything to do with it? This one was under Easylist. The others I previously sent were at the top of the list under 'Exception Rules'.
I cannot see anything else in the EasyList white list that looks remotely like adjuggler or banner.

Dave:
You have pretty much ALL of the DOMAINS completely whitelisted. This means that EVERYTHING contained within these domains/subdomains is allowed whether they are friday-ad or not. Because you use:
Code: Select all
@@|http://www.friday-ad.co.uk/
and
@@|https://secure.friday-ad.co.uk/
and
@@http://www.friday-ad.co.uk/PlaceAnAd
Check again:
I'll bet your ABP icon is green when you go to there, isn't it? If it is, that would explain everything.
ps: The 3 longest whitelist strings you have listed above are unnecessary because they are already whitelisted by the shorter strings. Whitelist strings cover anything written AFTER its ending point.

Deleting relevent white listed items solves problem
Hello Rick and other contributors,
Thank you Rick for your input as well.
Yes you are exactly right. The ABP was green.
I have deleted all but the Place an Ad Secure white listed item and that solves the problem completely. ABP is now red.
Thank you everyone for your help. As always its very simple when you know how!
I think it is much better to just enable / disable ABP when certain graphics within a site are required for other puposes. Then it does not mess up other parts of the same site like it does when you apply a filter.
Kind regards,
David
