Youtube vs Google video

Post by firefoxfan »

I'm an avid fan of youtube and watch several clips hosted by them daily, with no problems with embedded youtube players on any other site, until today.

I rarely use google video, but last night I watched a full-length clip at the google video site, and now today none of the regular youtube clips are showing up.

I finally figured out why. Youtube is now blocked in AdBlock Plus. I didn't block it. Who did? Was google video able to modify adblock filters to block youtube?

No, the websites cannot modify your filters. What filter was blocking YouTube? Do you have any subscriptions?

I don't know if I have any subscriptions or not, but when *I* block a site, I use *youtube.com* as the syntax. The site that was blocked was http://www.youtube.com/ in the filter. I always strip the "http://www." off the URL and use * on front and back when I'm blocking a site, so I *know* I didn't block the youtube site.

Go to the Youtube page giving you trouble and press Ctrl+Shift+B to bring up the list of blockable items. Which items are in red? Hover over all the red items and list the filters in effect.
What, me worry?

That's a pointless exercise now because I've deleted the http://www.youtube.com/ filter, which is exactly what was blocked. Everything to youtube was blocked in blockables list. What I want to know is how the filter got there in the first place.

CBS also

It's important to note I also watched a few clips at the cbsnews.com site last night, which I rarely do. Either of these, google video or cbsnews.com are the most likely culprits for adding the youtube filter to adblock plus at this time.

Websites cannot add filters. If they had the capability to do so, then they have the capability to do more nefarious things.
What, me worry?

Dude... YouTube is bought by Google.
So if Google blocks YouTube they will have less profit.
Believe me... they didn't do it.

Also, it's kind of impossible, without a security vulnerability the size of a black hole.
