Update filter subscriptions now block ads in BetaYahoo Mail.

Post by davemab »

Rick.
Thank you for this new filter. It blocks the ads in the new Beat Yahoo Mail and gives a whole new dimension to it. A great long viewing area for all the folders list without all the ads.
I know you can keep on improving things, but is it possible to remove the blank 6cm wide space the whole height of the screen on the right. The advert is blocked from Easy Elements (as before) but it leaves a blank unused space which remains in the Beta version. In the old version the ad space is removed when you load a folder. This would be the final thing to make the Beta version perfect!
Thanks for your help on this matter.
Kind regards,
David

Unfortunately "no". It seems that the mail panes are of a defined width and that is where they end. There is actually nothing to remove on the right ... it is just empty space now.

Ad pane on the right in Beta Yahoo Mail.

Rick,
Thanks for your reply.
Its really weird that while your message was coming through I happened to use their new drag and drop facility to drag messages to new folders and when I did that the whole page opened up without the right space for the ad. As soon as I clicked a new folder the space returned.

It's probably the way the "active" code works there. When the script code processes, it may just 'ignore' the page layout for a second to process the info.

But I'll keep looking from time to time to see if there IS a way to change the blocking/hiding ... but for now, I'll just leave it as it is.

Yahoo! Mail Beta

Post by davemab »

Rick. Thanks for keeping your eye on it. Even you cannot find a way round it the finished product works so much better. For the timebeing I have had to revert back to the original version anyway because they are still working on the options etc.
Kind regards, David

You are already working very hard, Rick. Much harder then I do my list, at least.

This is an arm race we're in. They are the guerilla driven by profits, and we the partisan driven by our feeling and believes.
Sometimes I can't help but wonder what kind of resistances and offences we'll face down the road... I still think this is only the beginning.

I'd say we're the guerrillas. We're the small group removing ads from big websites.

Yahoo Mail - Cannot block Experian Credit advert

Post by davemab »

Ad Block has been working perfectly in the original version of Yahoo Mail for over 4 months now. Suddenly, with Ad Block switched on this advert appears at the right of the page. Right clicking to find the location has no effect.

Image

Below you will see the original advert with Ad Block switched off. The scroll down box in the middle of this advert is what appears when Ad Block is switched on again.

Because of problems with Yahoo Mail Beta, I have decided to work only in the original version for now. Can this annoying advert be blocked completely?

I tried right clicking the advert to get the link location but this links to a page that cannot be displayed when clicked. This false link is

http://uk.ard.yahoo.com/SIG=12pvs9j72/M ... acmonsterf

I have copied the proper link location from the browser (after clicking the advert on the Yahoo page). The browser location for this advert is

http://www.joincreditexpert.com/freecre ... acmonsterf

Kind regards,
David

=yahoointeracmonster will not work

Rick,

I am not sure that I am doing the right thing but I have simply copied and pasted the code you gave me to a new filter. It does not block that scroll bar advert though.

That would be the correct way ( make sure that it is there under "Advertisement filters".

I can't help as everything is working perfectly on my U.S. account.

You need to find and "right-click copy" the address of any 'object' in the 'blockable items' list. That would give me a clue as to what it is.

".yimg.com/a/" doesn't work on the UK site? Does it need to be something like "yimg.co.uk" instead?

Experian advert

Post by davemab »

Hello Rick,

Yes, I have placed the code exactly as you say in the Advertisements section. Still does not work.

This is the location of another advert that is blocked completely in Yahoo. I was not sure what you meant by 'find an object etc.' so I hope this is what you are asking for! I do not understand the Yahoo set up at times myself. When I log in to mail it is to .com.

http://uk.ard.yahoo.com/SIG=12pgbknf4/M ... .asp?id=20

Where did the address yimg.com/a/ from?

.yimg/com/a/

...is Yahoo's adserver domain and subdirectory string in the US. Don't know if your is different.

We might need to find someone with a UK account to identify the problem.

Go to Ablock's OPTIONS and turn on "show tabs in flash and java". Go to the page with the ad .... click the little "adblock" icon around the flash file .... add the address to the filter and see if it works (might have to reload the page).

In any event, post that string here.
