WiFi Internet stops workin on Android with Adblock installed

Post by Very Anonymous »

Almost every Nexus 7 user and other Google Nexus users have this severe problem (Android 4.2.1):

With Adblock running, many applications don't work correctly using a WiFi connection - you receive multiple disconnects, timeouts or proxy connection errors, in short your tablet becomes more or less unusable.

Google Play doesn't show applications pages, searches often fail, websites in Google Chrome hang midway during loading (i.e. you see a half of the pictures, but the other half takes forever to load and display).

The problem goes away when you stop/uninstall Adblock Plus.

I've uninstalled Adblock temporarily because I cannot tolerate these glitches any longer.

I too am seeing issues on wifi with Adblock installed. Applications will lose connectivity even though device shows as connected and router still shows device as connected.

Dolphin browser shows pages as unavailable, Chrome shows error on proxy. Other apps show connection problem.

Actual function of app is fine, ads blocked as expected.

on android 4.1.2 google had removed the proxy settings, so this app cannot work anymore in this way.

Confirm the same behaviour on Nexus 7 on 4.2.2 and GS3 on 4.1.2
ABP renders the equipment practically unusable.
Too many errors, timeouts etc.

I had the same problem but with IOS. I solved the problem by adding a filter in adblock with this URL "http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html". This URL is needed when connecting to a network. I am not sure what Androids URL is but this is the way I solve my adblock problem on IOS.

Same problem here. Adblock installs ok, I'm setting up the proxy fine (CCNP so you know I know) but then adblock is stopping all traffic getting through. I could set up a proxy, but what about the people who don't have a server or want to use adblock with coffee shop wifi?

Same Problem on my Nexus 4 under Androïd 4.3.
After uninstalling Adblock, all is back to normal.

Could you fix this problem? I really would like to use Adblock on my cell phone.

Sorry, I was too quick yesterday. After installation I was not requested for setting proxy so I thought in this version it was solved differently. Today I niticed that Adblock does not block anything, so I setup proxy again, and situation got back to 'normal', which means http connections work fine, and https do not. Adblock is not even able to refresh list subscribtion ss it's done via https protocol.

ABP kills all HTTPS :-(

Same problem here, on Nexus 7 (2013) with Android 4.3.
Version info: ABP 1.1.2 build# 253.

Tablet is rooted, proxy configured... and then all HTTPS traffic dies, Google Play Store app included.

Chrome for Android reports "ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED".
Other browsers and apps give nothing but network errors when using https.

HTTP traffic is fine, but obviously that ain't enough!

To top it all off:
- ABP can't update its Filter subscriptions, I guess these use https too?
- ABP website is inaccessible from Android device with ABP running, because the site enforces https...!
