blocking social media items? without slowing page load times

Post by Rational Db8 »

Hi folks,

I'm wondering if there is any way to block social media items (would they be called 'elements?') on webpages... without slowing page loading? I'd like to both speed up page loading if possible and regain space... For example, see near the top of the page: http://www.examiner.com/article/the-bai ... bama-loses just under the article title, where there are images/links to 'vote' or 'recommend' on facebook, stumble, tweet, and email.... often sites will also have a google+1 item too.

Can these be eliminated across the board on all sites? And would doing so speed up, or slow down page loading?

Sure, adding filters to block social content will certainly speed things up.. there is 2 lists available that can help;

Annoyances List

Antisocial List

Thank you Fanboy! Are there any pros and cons in comparing the two? (Annoyances list vs. Antisocial list) If there are any compatibility issues you know of, I'm currently subscribed to Easylist [sorry! :0) ] and the malware domains list... Firefox 9 & Windows 7.

Oh, on the compatibility issue I should note I also installed the firefox add on Ghostery - although I am considering EasyPrivacy and/or Adversity (and interested in any comparison info, or other options if somehow better... I'm not clear on just what the Adversity list does compared to these other options)

Antisocial vs Fanboy Annoyance - One major difference is that Fanboy's annoyance list is more broad and covers more than just social content (as the name suggests).

Alos you might consider upgrading your Firefox, version 9 is quite old.

Personally I'm not a fan of Ghostery.
