Replace blocked contents with a text or image

Post by Tobi »

It would be a great feature, to replace content blocked by Adblock Plus with an image or a text "blocked". So, it is visable, when a filter blockes the false content.

I agree I never liked programs that did that. First thing I did was disable that feature. If it is used in adblock plus though I wouldn't care as long as it's an option.

If you have the 'Collapse blocked elements' box checked (and it is by default) and a majority of the blocked ads collapse the space, then where would you want that image to show up? ... over the content that is now there?

I would turn that off in a hurry ... and so would you.

i would see the utility of this when testing and especially for detecting false positives. i'd use a 1x1 pix red dot as an indicator; toggle to turn off totally would be nice.

i recall wp mentioned he looked at this but there was an issue.

I would really like this as an option just to test for ads that you need to unblock.

I guess the issue would be that: "How can you check a false-positive that is not being allowed to download in the first place?"

IMHO, it seems the problem is that it can't show what it hasn't downloaded to begin with. That is why a blocked item in the 'blockable items' window will not show an image that is blocked when you mouseover it .... because it is NEVER downloaded to be shown in ABP in the first place.

Make sense? (don't go by me .. I'm no genius)

well, if not a genius at least no slouch, since ya got the best filter out there.. ;)

i was thinking more simply: just an indicator that a block has taken place, which may or may not be expected. if unexpected, it's then easy to turn off ABP and refresh to see the item(s) then, don't need to change the non-loading of blocked images.
