Spam on Adblockplus-Forum

Post by blade »

I noticed many bot-generated spam-posts.
Can we do something against those things?
I and certainly the rest of us, don't want to buy any of those products!

I delete them several times a day. But they builds up while I'm sleeping. Thanks for trying to help. We are doing what we can, but if one goes for days without being remove then you are welcome to PM me or one of the other mods/admin here and it will be dealt with. We don't like spam either.

WP is on vacation right now but he will probably tweak some settings to block them better when he returns. Thanks and have a great day.

If you need an extra mod, I'd be happy to help!

That's not up to me. That's up to the site owner, which is WP (Wladimir Palant)

Seems everyone needs a couple of good 'spam mods' these days. This stuff is getting bad. Now it's bad on MY forum too

I think it should be a global law that anyone who does this stuff should have all of their fingers cut off!

ps: @IceDogg
... thanks for your help in my forum too. You are slowly becoming a professional spam mod

Seems that things got a little out of hand while I was on vacation. IceDogg - thanks for taking care of this. I should have a less manual solution to the problem soon :)

I would be very happy if you could share any phpbb spam-blocking info with me, Wladimir. This stuff sucks! Maybe 'Spamblock Plus' could be a popular product?

ps: Welcome back. Hope you had a great time on vacation

I can give you the mods. I'm afraid however that this isn't for the wider public, my "spamblock" is assuming that spammers won't waste time adjusting their spambots to get one forum. It wouldn't be effective if everybody used it.

I implemented some improvements to the forum's spam protection, now automated spam bots definitely shouldn't be able to post here. You shouldn't notice anything unusual, if you find some forum functionality that isn't working as expected - please tell me. Btw, formatting buttons in the reply form should work again now.

@IceDogg: If you see spam on the forum again please save the IP and the message of the first post before deleting it. I don't care about any posts the same spam bot sends later.

BUG: When you post in the forum without "www" (only http://adblockplus.org/forum/ ), than you have 7 input fields for nick and subject. And you are not able to make a posting. It says always:
Sorry, we don't like spammers here.

You have an old style in your cache, simply pressing Reload for the page should do (if not - hold the Shift key when pressing Reload).

We got some spam again today. From the log it doesn't look like bots, these could be real humans spamming :-(
