Facebook Sponsored Ads

Firefox 4.0.1 Adblock Plus 1.3.8

Can't seem to block sponsored ads in the right hand column on Facebook

I've got the Fanboy subscription enabled and have also tried adding filters with element hider which produced the following:

facebook.com##DIV.ego_section
facebook.com##.ego_section

None of which have any effect.

facebook.com##.ego_spo
facebook.com##.fbEmu
facebook.com##.fbEmuBlock
facebook.com##.fbEmuEgo
facebook.com##.fbEmuEgoUnit
facebook.com##.fbEmuLink
facebook.com##a[ajaxify^="/ajax/emu/end.php?"]

We use the following filters for Facebook:

Code: Select all

facebook.com###home_sponsor_nile
facebook.com##.ego_spo
facebook.com##.fbEmu
facebook.com##.fbEmuBlock
facebook.com##.fbEmuEgo
facebook.com##.fbEmuEgoUnit
facebook.com##.fbEmuLink
facebook.com##a[ajaxify^="/ajax/emu/end.php?"]
facebook.com##a[href^="/ajax/emu/end.php?"]
Do any of them work for you?

OK I've added the Easylist subscription which seems to include all the above filters but still getting all the sponsored ads.

Would you please install Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus and attempt to generate similar rules? We will then be able to consider the filters you have discovered for inclusion in subscriptions.

I dunno if it's cos yesterday I cleared some cookies from the browser (i was trying to get twitter to work normally) and also did a system restore forced by a semi-installed update from acrobat reader which was causing me lots of issues. Yesterday after i reset the laptop the ads from FB were all there, same way as they do on internet explorer :/ Meaning, until the day before i could not see any while using firefox, since yesterday June 23rd, i can :(
Is there anything i can do? is this a bug? I find it a strange coincidence th same day i'm having problems with it, someone posts an issue about it. Please tell me there's something to be done! So far my abp has been working terrific :(:( I want those ads gone arghh

That's where I started Michael, sadly it does nothing. Expanding the scope to include the full sponsored ad section gives the following filter:

facebook.com##.ego_section

But when activated this gets no hits even after restarting Firefox.

Would you please submit an issue report on the problematic page and post a link to it in this topic?

I dunno if the list was updated or what, but the sponsored ads are blocked once again, thank goodness! I added the Easylist again, in a desperate attempt to block them, an it worked. Either by chance or wtv, but it worked.

Today I have uninstalled Adblock Plus and manually deleted anything related from my Firefox profile. Then re-installed with only the Easylist subscription and now the Sponsored links are blocked. So it looks like ABP or it's filters are somehow becoming corrupt overtime.

I don't see any conclusive follow-up to this problem which I have also experienced as of recently. I have also recently cleared some of my cache, and I just tried a clean re-installation with no effect on this problem. I suggest a conclusive response to this general problem is conceived and also included in the F.A.Q.

I've added all the filters, under both "filters" and "element hiding", and cleared all cookies, and restarted the browser and Stii I get all the sponsored ads on the right side? Any ideas? Is FB sneaking around ABP somehow???
