Adblock stops youtube player

Post by deamon9 »

Okay so in the past I could go on youtube and adblock would work beautifully and stop the ads from poping up and the videos would automatically start as if there wasn't any ads. But after my latest reformat and re-installation of firefox + adblock I ran into a problem. The adblock does its job and blocks the ads but it now stops the videos from playing. It never did this before and it just started doing this today. I have no idea on how to fix it other than removing adblock but of course the ads come back with a vengence.

So my question is does anyone know what is causing adblock to stop youtube from automatically playing the video when the page loads?

I think that it has to do with changes made by YouTube, possibly the same ones that led the ABP Chrome hackery to stop working.

I haven't gone to any videos with ads that play before the video starts...

YouTube made changes to its site, and the Chrome extension's hackery (due to lack of ability to directly block object-subrequests) will need to change too, but there's currently some lag time involved: forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8104

I don’t think evil YouTube has figured out how to make Adblock Plus disable the flash player. Here’s how I fixed this problem for myself.

First – if your Add-ons bar isn't displayed:
Right click the menu bar; or if you have the menu bar hidden, right click the tabs bar and
make sure there’s a check beside Add-ons Bar.

If you’re not there already, go to YouTube and try playing a video.

On the Add-ons bar, click the little stop sign with ABP on it.

Click: Report issue on this page…

Select: Adblock Plus is blocking too much

If your problem is the same as mine, there will now be a button available for disabling user defined filters with, Disable filter, in it. Click this.

Click: Reload page

Yay!! Adblock Plus still works on YouTube. Worked for me anyway. Hope this works for you.

In the long run, maintaining compatibility without ads will be tough given the closed nature of the Flash player.

I do not have Flash installed and have never had a problem with viewing Youtube without advertising. ABP (with every English subscription offered) has never caused a problem with YT HTML5.

You might look into blocking all Flash on youtube.com, or better yet, ditch Flash altogether.

Thank you Euphoreus it solved my problem. It showed me a user defined filter that was blocking youtube.com, removed it and the problem solved. maybe when I add a block rule on a third site

The ads on youtube actually help the youtubers create videos. By watching the ads, you are supporting youtubers in need.

Thank you! Works perfectly. No more Mormon project managers from Acadia! No more Christian singles in my area.
