context menus slow with Adblock Plus 0.7.0.1
context menus slow with Adblock Plus 0.7.0.1
When version 0.7.0.1, right-click context menus need much longer to appear. Here it's two seconds. Version 0.7 seems to work fine
Re: context menus slow with Adblock Plus 0.7.0.1
WFM in Windows XP SP2. In 0.7.0.1 was added a feature related to context menu (see this thread and 0.7.0.1 changelog, but this option is a context menu modification, it should not make it slower. What OS are you using? Did you have any blocked image before installing ABP? And what other extensions do you use?Anonymous wrote:When version 0.7.0.1, right-click context menus need much longer to appear. Here it's two seconds. Version 0.7 seems to work fine

You can also make a new profile, install just Adblock Plus 0.7.0.1 and see if you have problem also with that profile.

I've found this exact same thing, both on Windows XP and FreeBSD. AdBlock Plus is definitely an involved factor here. 0.7 was fine, but as soon as I updated to 0.7.0.1 the right-click context menus went from being instantaneous to taking several seconds to appear.
It may be a conflict with another extension, but I am 100% certain Adblock Plus is involved somehow, and that it relates to the update 0.7 -> 0.7.0.1
For the time being I am forced to disable Adblock Plus, which all by itself solves the problem.

Sorry for the double-post and accidentally as guest... FF messed up.
Anyhow, of the list of extensions Master posted, the only other one we have in-common besides Ablock Plus is Linkification. I tried disabling it and restarting with Adblock Plus enabled. The problem is back. So it would appear that the issue isn't an extension conflict.

Update:
I went through the tedious process of disabling all extensions except for AB+. The problem remains, though not as bad. Delay went from 10+ seconds down to about 3-4 seconds. With AB+ disabled, right-click context menus pop up instantly.
This tells us two things:
1) The problem is not a conflict with another extension (unless disabling them isn't enough)
2) The problem gets compounded as more extensions are present. I suspect it's any that hook into the context menu. Whatever code was added to fiddle with the context menu in AB+ 0.7.0.1 adds a delay which hooks into how other stuff uses the context menu. So the more things that hook into the context menu, the more the delay increases. With all my extensions enabled, the delay is so long that a right-click triggers the time-out error about a script taking too long to execute.
Hopefully someone who's working on the code is reading this thread.

Hmm, well I DO use non-default themes on both systems. However, I just tried switching to the default theme and that didn't help.
I'm on my FreeBSD desktop at the moment (home) which makes it easier to diagnose since the problem is more-pronounced on this system than the XP one (work).
Ugh it's almost 3am, I probably should go to bed soon... let me know if there is other stuff I can try to help you diagnose this.

Try this, change the extensions.adblockplus.hideimagemanager preference under about:config to falsesremick wrote:Ugh it's almost 3am, I probably should go to bed soon... let me know if there is other stuff I can try to help you diagnose this.
I'am not sure if this is that problem or if that helps,
but like adum said, That is new feature in 0.7.0.1.
edit: 0.7.0.1 changelog
The extensions.adblockplus.hideimagemanager trick solved my problem
Some additional information:
- I use the default theme
- The delay is not done by a timer or something like, but by high CPU usage (I see this in the task manager). So maybe the "bug" is present on all computers, not an conflict. Indeed my computer is old (450 Mhz). My delay is about 3s. So if you have a modern computer (3 Ghz), the delay is maybe only about 0,4s. Invisible.
Hope it helps, and thanks again Fox.
