Adblock Plus 0.6 - Development builds

Everything about using Adblock Plus on Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird and SeaMonkey

Many, many thanks to Peng for the "language" and "formatting!" I used his script as a model but eliminated the 24-sizes and used only my version of "16" pngs ( I always use "small icons").

Personally I went with something intuitive & less complicated and only 2k of stylish script (will probably commit to user file) - green for on, red for off. No pics, no dialog, no messing . . . . wfm. May "crisp up" the image edges later. Again, the tweaks were made ONLY for "16" png sizes/small icons. Should I change to "large icons," the default AB+ ones take over. Green & red seem more "Palm Pilotish" and intuitive to me. Top view is green/enabled in as it appears in Toolbar, bottom is red/disabled as appears Status Bar.

EDIT: These are crisper & attained by "cheating," and making the image actually 14 x14 - removes some "padding" & edge fuzziness by placing the smaller 14x14 along right edge of its "placement slot." Size then relates better to adjacent icon and arrow.

@Peng: Could you also add chrome://navigator/content/navigator.xul to @-moz-document? Then it will work in SeaMonkey and I could link to it from the FAQ...

And the bug is actually a feature :)

Will do. :)

Edit: Done.

Edit: Oh. I hadn't figured out what bug was a feature. Now I have. Okay.

@ Everyone:

Congratulations (especially you, Wladimir) on what seems so far is a very successful release (at least here it is).

I just logged in not long ago not knowing what to expect. I had only 4 ABP relative emails total throughout the 12 hours following the release of Adblock Plus 0.7 .... this is certainly excellent news at this point.

I will also take this time to thank ALL of the developers, testers, the filter makers, and people who have lent their help and input for the last 2 years for a terrific evolution of this extension ... with out ANY of them, this project would NOT be where it is today.

I like the icons in the last dev build.

Yeah .. actually, so did I. But I think there was a discussion with the icon "clarity".

I think at the "11th hour", that Wladimir decided to release ADB 0.7 as planned, instead of waiting for the icon issue to be resolved.

IMHO, I think the icons will be changed .... eventually.

oops (login)

my post above.

It's too bad that they were NOT used.

It seems that the icon author just did not use a good resizing/resampling filter for the icon graphics reduction. I say that because the original sheet that he posted was very nice ... clean and clear! Even Irfanview does a fine job resampling...

Again, you can use a style if you want to use the new icons.

On this site, despite two FX "close and reopns," tabs for java/flash do not appear on the ad 2/3 down page:

I'm posting under "filters" forum a related question to this. Had it here, but it really doesn't relate to DevBuild/0.7, so I've deleted and will repost. Thanks.

Or this topic could simply be renamed, but I think a new topic is a good idea, since this one has 776 replies (soon to be 777 ;) ).

Edit: I have a feature request that I should probably post in another thread or something: A setting, whether through a dialog or one of the menus or I dunno, to export disabled filters or not. I keep some filters I don't want to use disabled because they're very general, and I don't really want to bother manually cleaning them out of an export..

Edit: Should Adblock Plus allow a filter to be listed in a subscription multiple times in patterns.ini?

Edit: Oddly enough, one of my filters ("*/RealMedia/ads/") just isn't working at the moment. Firefox has been under a lot of stress, though, and is using 578 MB of RAM and 1.7 GB of virtual RAM, so I guess I should expect random weird breakage. I don't want to delete the filter and recreate it since I think I'll lose the hit count if I close the preferences window.

Edit: Restarts did not help, but changing the filter to "*/RealMedia/ads/*" did. What's up with that?

Edit: With both filters, the only difference I see in patterns.ini is that the shortcut for */RealMedia/ads/* is "/realmed" while the shortcut for */RealMedia/ads/ is "/RealMed".

Edit: I made a new thread for that.

Feature request:
  • *support shortcut "F2" for editing a marked filter
*add "copy address" to context menu in sidebar
