Install Adblock Plus for all users

Post by se224141 »

en/faq_install#global

Unfortunately I didn't have luck with the above instruction on Vista Home Premium. Is there any exclusive instruction for Vista Home Premium?

What exactly doesn't work? Creating a subdirectory in the Firefox application directory requires administrator privileges of course, same with unpacking an XPI file there - but whatever application you use, it should ask you to elevate its privileges automatically.

Similar problem for me on Windows XP - silent global install of adblock plus extension did work at least up to version 1.1.1 using

"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -install-global-extension c:\NETINST\adblock_plus-1.1.1-fx+sm+tb.xpi

Is this a bug - or is there a workaround?

BTW: Thanx for your good work and keep up with it!

lulatsch66, always great to hear people say "I have the same problem" without even describing the problem (a description that the op didn't give either). See my question in the post above.

Wladimir, thanx for your quick answer.

I'm sorry that you didn't understand my post - it's solved now.

The problem was, that the "-install-globally" command line option didn't work - in the meantime,
I've started installation using en/faq_install#global

So, I've recognized that the xpi file, that I've downloaded
yesterday from https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/1865, could not be opened and unpacked.

After downloading adblock_plus-1.1.3-fx+sm+tb+fn.xpi from http://adblockplus.org/de/installation#release
and trying again

"%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -install-global-extension c:\NETINST\adblock_plus-1.1.3-fx+sm+tb+fn.xpi

this worked flawlessly.

Best regards,
thanx for support
and keep up with your good work, please.
