The Impossible Ad (popup discussion)

Post by a guest »

I think I may have found an Ad that seems impossible to block. The site in question is Imagefap dot com. A click anywhere on the page and another window will open with this Ad:
hxxp://creatives.livejasmin.com/iframes/i/im/imagefap/imagefap.html
Now obviously, one can just disable Javascript or use NoScript, but in order to see the full size images on the website, Javascript has to be allowed. There just doesn't seem to be anyway around this.

techically its a popup, and Adblock Plus isn't a popup blocker. However there are a list specifically for adult-based sites..

There are multiple solutions.

Go into about:config and set the following preferenes:

Preference: dom.popup_allowed_events
Value: blank

Preference: dom.popup_maximum;0
Value: 0

Preference: privacy.popups.firstTime
Value: false

Preference: privacy.popups.policy
Value: 3

-----------------------

Second solution: install an extension called "controle descripts" and use it.

Open up the advanced javascript controls it gives you, go to the "advanced" tab.

Click the "add" buton on the side.

In the new box, enter "window.open," make sure "not applicable" is checked, then click OK.

Click the OK at the bottom of the controle-de-scripts window to close it.

You're good to go. No site anywhere will ever be able to create a popup, javascript or not.

-------------------

Use an extension called "exexceptions" by natsui. Use it.

It may take forever to friggin load it's main window if you have a large number of denied domains for images, cookies, popups, etc. -- definitely this will be a problem if you use spybot s&d or spyware blaster. Could take up to 5 min. to load.

Instead I recommend you do your porn surfing in a separate profile with this extension installed, if indeed you use the type of software i've named. Before installing it, clear out all of your site preferences (extremely easy in shiretoko) -- every domain-based denial of content. the images manager, popup manager, installation manager, all of it. Do that, take the steps following this paragraph, then re-run spybot or whatever to automatically re-insert all those denials while the browser is closed.

In it, create a preference for livejasmin.com that denies everything.

Then, create a preference for imagefap.com to restrict it to your liking.

----------------

You can use an extension called "blocksite" in either blacklist mode or whitelist mode.

You should probably set it to whitelist mode and only accept http://*.imagefap.com/* and whatever IDN domains are required through all of that site's redirected images. An extension called "request policy" is also useful here.
------------------

Finally assuming you're using windows, put creative.livejasmin.com in your hosts file so at least the popup doesn't mean anything.

More ideas coming!

ExExceptions allows easy import/export of preferences to hostsperm.1 files. So here's what you can do. Remember to do this in a firefox profile you're ok with dedicating this much experimentation into.

1) Clear all site preferences in your firefox (SO EASY in shiretoko).

2) Create a custom list of all the sites you want to restrict. Back it up as custom.hostsperm.1.

3) Close firefox. Run spybot s&d (or whatever you use) to insert passive protection. Open Firefox, open exexceptions (may now take freaking forever). You'll notice that both spybot's entries and your custom entries are present. Create a backup named combo.hostsperm.1.

------------

Now. Any time you want to want to add stuff, you can repeat a modified routine of the above. Instead after step 1, for step 2 you start by loading custom.hostsperm.1, adding to it, backing it up again, then continuuing to step 3. It should be quick and painless until your custom list hits the 100's, which it shouldn't.

------------

* Note. When spybot makes entries into permissions.sqlite, you'll see if only effects 3 parameters: cookies, images, install. That's only 3 out of the 15 parameters exexceptions is capable of modifying.

If you decided to increase the number of modified parameters on sites that are created by spybot, I am telling you now it's perfectly ok!. Add these things to your custom list and spybot will respect them! I've done the testing. Spybot will not reverse your mods.

Some great responses so far.

Yep, but as you said it's a popup/popunder. So all current Adblock Plus lists have no effect on it, so far.

Yep, but won't this block popups on all sites? There are some useful popups to consider. And this sounds like what IE7/IE8 does. IE7 and IE8 have a stronger popup blocker that can be set to high. It basically keeps all other windows from opening, but with no exceptions/ white lists.

Sounds interesting, but how stable is it? And how compatible is it with newer versions of FF? And looking at the screenshots of it on the Addon page, I didn't see a exception/whitelist feature.

From your description, it's sounds like in the amount of time it takes for the extension to load, I could simply close the popup window by clicking on the X in the top right hand corner, but of course, I would have have to do that every time clicked anywhere on an ImageFap page.

Yep, but I think this is equivalent to URL blocking, which only blocks the content of a page, but not the new window from opening.
asdf wrote:Finally assuming you're using windows, put creative.livejasmin.com in your hosts file so at least the popup doesn't mean anything.
Actually, I'm doing that with Adblock Plus with a filter:

Code: Select all

but it only blocks the content, not the window from opening.

As of note, it seems that the way the ImageFap (and a few other websites) work is that a click anywhere on the page triggers a script to open up an Ad window. But disabling that script somehow causes the site to lose it's functionality. And a browser with a higher popup blocker setting built in is able to block all the popups, but an exception list would be needed for the useful popups. If something could be written into a program or addon extension,(or maybe something already has) that would stop all javacript activated popups and only allows popups that are from a user clicking on a hyperlink on a webpage. I've even wondered if Firefox would upgrade it's current popup blocker to include both a higher setting(block all new windows from opening) and include an exceptions list for websites with useful popups. Even just a basic addon extension would be useful:

Tools > Pop-Up/Under Blocker > Preferences >
Settings:
O High (Blocks all new windows from opening)
O Medium
O Low
(Would include an exception list/white list type featute)

Any other thoughts?

Still trying to solve this, even tried another forum but still haven't figured this out.

Ok here's what I've been doing so far with multiple scenarios:

(Browsing with Firefox - AdblockPlus/NoScript installed and enabled):
Going to this pic hosting site:
hxxp://www.im@gef@p.com/
Choose a niche, choose a view gallery, click on a thumbnail. When clicking on the thumbnail, instead of a full size image appearing in the same window, only text and a few small thumbnails from other pics in the same gallery. At the time of the thumbnail click here are the NoScript icon menu settings (All scripts blocked):
-Allow google-analytics.c0m
-Allow adbrite.c0m
-Allow im@gef@p.c0m

Now when I click on "Allow im@gef@p.c0m" in the NoScript icon menu, the page reloads with the big image and then a new click anywhere on the webpage results in a new popunder window opening with this URL address:
hxxp://creatives.livejasmin.com/iframes/i/im/imagefap/imagefap.html
Using AdblockPlus, I can block the content on the Ad page with this filter:

Code: Select all

but it doesn't prevent the new popunder window from opening.

(Browsing with IE8 - with Inbrowser Popup Blocker settings on highest setting)
Same scenario as above but I'm able to view the big images and the popunder Ad is blocked. But, there is no way to block the non-script Ads with IE, just popups. And IE doesn't have an exception list for trusted websites that might have useful popups.

I've been trying to figure out a way to go the that site using Firefox with the correct configuration so the the website still functions as it was intended but to block the popunder Ad and still view the bigger images. There have been plenty of good suggestions, but I don't think I got the right configuration, yet. Adblock Original was mentioned in the other forum, but I only have AdblockPlus for FF. Where can Adblock Original be found? And can both addons be used simultaniously?

noscript.surrogate.fap.replacement = window.puShown getter = window.puShown setter = function() { return true };

Yep, that FF preference configuration enables both site functionality and blocked popunder. Thanks Giorgio.

It looks like this should do the trick:

I do not know if this will help anybody but I installed the Addon "controle descripts" and under the advanced Tab I added the permissions "Window.popundr" and "Window.open" both of them to block.

Since doing this I have not had any creatives.livejasmin.com popunder windows in FF.

Just my 2¢

Based on a post on another site:

I tried adding an entry in the Windows host file (this file overrides DNS lookups):

For (2000/XP) the host file is here:

%windir%/System32/Drivers/Etc/host

For Vista - try this: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hostsvista.htm

Add the line:
127.0.0.1 livejasmine.com

The solution works by causing http requests for resources at livejasmine.com to go to your local PC (instead of livejasmine's) causing a 404 response, rendering the scripts from them useless.

It worked for me.

Be sure to spell livejasmin.com correctly. You'll find that it works much better.

This all looks so complicated. Can't someone build an addon that contains a list of desired websites to block (i.e. the url's of the popups/popunders that are manually added when they happen the first time)?
