Facebook new layout won't hide ad elements

Post by FrustratedWithFacebook »

I have gone in with AdBlock Plus: Element Hiding Helper and I can select the ads in the div tag on the right side of a profile and hide them. It works right at that moment and ads this to my filters: facebook.com#DIV(id=sidebar_ads)

However the next profile I visit or the next time I log into facebook it is no longer blocked. The filter is still there but it's almost as if facebook is placing the content after the filter fires to hide elements. Can anyone tell me how to get around this?

To see what I mean use AdBlock Plus: Element Hiding Helper to hide it as I did. Then shut down firefox and open it back up and go again to your profile and the ads are back.

Additional info:

I also tried these and they don't work:
facebook.com#div(fadbar_upsell)
facebook.com#div(fadbar_title)
facebook.com#div(fad_frame)
facebook.com#div(fadbar_header)
facebook.com#div(fadbar_column)

I am using firefox and here is my version info:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.9) Gecko/2009040821 Firefox/3.0.9

I figured it out. I had to upgrade to the newest version of AdBlock Plus plugin and now it works. I feel like a total dunce but maybe it will help someone else who is having the same issue.

I'm having the same issue here. I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042805 Iceweasel/3.0.9 (Debian-3.0.9-1) and Adblock Plus 1.0.2 and element hiding does _not_ work. Not on Facebook or any other site. Could you give me some hints where to look for a fix?

Good question. I really hope Iceweasel developers didn't mess something up again... Can you try an official Firefox build just to verify that this isn't an issue on their end?

Seems to be a problem with iceweasel. Just tested it with a firefox build from 3.0.9 sources and it works fine. Also I found this issue a Debian's bug tracker.
