As title say.
The last few days Chrome has been acting up, disabling ABP by force refreshing the webpages on Youtube after a few videos, or if longer videos it can happen while the video is playing.
After fiddling a bit with updating stuff and checking ABP settings, i noticed Youtube.com suddenly was being whitelisted in the allowed-list.
This was a bit of a Eureka moment for me, seeing that the way Chrome is disabling ABP, was simply injecting Youtube.com into the allowed-list, which means ABP naturally wont be active on Youtube anymore.
Now comes the importent question.... Can this access be blocked somehow ?
Also is this even allowed ? im pretty sure this is quite a problematic practice, well atleast in the EU, as the browser is basicly acting on its own, which sure as shit isnt allowed in EU regulations.
I hope this can help, and praying a fix can be made to protect the allowed-list from Chrome making changes to it.
Chrome abusing Whitelist to disable addon on Youtube.
Re: Chrome abusing Whitelist to disable addon on Youtube.
How to i make sure this is seen by the Devs ?
A fairly easy solution could be to just make a "never allow this site to view add"-list or "never allow this site on the allowed list"-list
I think it should be fairly easy to block Chrome from injecting Youtube into the allowed-list, but this info needs to reach some kinda of Dev before they know about the issue

It sounds like a frustrating issue, and I can see why you'd be concerned. If Chrome (or potentially YouTube itself) is modifying Adblock Plus’s allowed-list without user consent, that could be a major problem.
Here are a few things you can try to prevent this from happening:
1. **Check for external interference**
- Make sure no third-party extensions are modifying ABP settings. Try disabling all other extensions except ABP and see if the issue persists.
2. **Lock the allowed-list (if possible)**
- While ABP doesn’t currently have a "never allow this site" option, you might be able to use an external method like **read-only permissions** on the settings file to prevent Chrome from modifying it.
3. **Test in a different Chromium-based browser**
- Try using Brave, Vivaldi, or Edge to see if the same behavior occurs. If it doesn’t, it might be a Chrome-specific issue.
4. **Use alternative content blockers**
- If ABP is being force-disabled, you might have better luck with uBlock Origin, which allows advanced rules and filters that prevent website interference.
5. **Report to the developers**
- The best way to ensure the devs see this issue is by filing a bug report on the Adblock Plus GitHub https://gitlab.com/eyeo/adblockplus or reaching out via their official support channels.
As for whether this is legal under EU regulations, it’s a gray area. If Chrome is modifying user settings without consent, it could indeed violate GDPR or consumer protection laws. You might want to file a report with your local data protection authority if you suspect foul play.

If Adblock Plus isn’t blocking ads properly, check if any extensions are conflicting with it. Some websites use anti-adblock measures, so adding custom filters might be necessary. Also, clearing your browser cache and updating the extension can sometimes resolve these issues.

Hi Cocio,
Did you try any workarounds yet, like locking the allowed-list settings or switching to a different browser, and if so, what were the results?

Hey
I been ignoring the issue, and it went away, for some time xD
This could be an ABP update, Youtube testing anti-blocking stopped or just the fact that i was shown enough ads during sleeping, that Youtubes anti-blocking tool started ignoring me xD
Huel:
1: Im not using other plugins, i got Shazam installed for song recigenition but its allways disabled when not used.
2: I havent looked into it, ABP (or rather plugins) seems to have local files stored knee deep in shared folders under the Document windows folder, so i havnt looked around for it, if it is even stored in a simple file. If you know the location for the allowed list settings, let me know.
3 and 4 : Im pretty sure its a Chrome only issue, but i like using both Chrome and ABP, and the issue it quite easy to spot here so i wont bother with other stuff, Youtube shouldnt be able to inject itself into the allowed-list, nor force-refresh the browser as to ensure it takes effect.
5: Cheers i´ll drop a report there when i get around to it.

Re: Chrome abusing Whitelist to disable addon on Youtube.
Update as of today :
Chrome has finally started to directly bypass the ABP plugin.
Chrome doesnt even try to add Youtube to the allowed-list anymore, nor is it needed, Youtube will show ads regardless now.
