ADBlockPlus Disables Java Applet

Post by irishmist20 »

www.usaa.com has a deposit at home feature which allows a user to scan and deposit a check into his bank savings account. You log in to www.usaa.com and start the deposit@home feature. This starts a Java applet that allows selecting a scanner and displays and enables scan, re-scan, rotate, back, submit and cancel buttons.

When I use FF2.0.0.11, as usually configured, after the Java applet loads the drop-down menu to allow scanner selection is missing, as well as five of the six buttons.

I went through the procedure in FF safe mode and everything worked fine. I again started FF in the safe mode but this time disabled all themes and extensions, selected make changes and restart, and the applet again worked fine.

I then enabled the theme and then all extensions, one-by-one, testing deposit@home after each was enabled and all went well until I enabled AdBlockPlus 0.7.5.3. Then the applet again failed to load properly EVEN THOUGH I have ABP disabled on the www.usaa.com website.

My Java platform is Standard Edition 6.

Any thoughts and possible setting changes for ABP are appreciated.

Can you try Firefox 3 Beta 1? I suspect that the problem will go away there, as with most Java issues. If that's the case, there is really not much I can do about it.

Wladimir,

Thanks for the reply. Since the issue is by-passable and only a slight inconvenience I will wait for FF 3 to be released out of beta.

I wasn't suggesting for you to upgrade - only hoping you could test whether this is one of the issues fixed in Firefox 3. But whatever...

I will check out the issue when I upgrade to FF3 and report back here. Thanks.
