Unable to block "sponsored" spamvertized images at TinyPic

Post by kukla »

Have tried all blocking options, not just the one checked in the screenshot, and none work.

It's up to date. Weird, none of the Custom Filter options have any effect. Just tested. They're working on other sites no problem.

EDIT: Hmmm, seems to be something to do with a new profile I'm using. Running from the old one doesn't show this crap. Not sure what that could be.

Not seeing any of this junk?

Thanks, but it needed a full reinstall and it's now blocking all that crap the way it used to in the old profile Removed all traces of it from the profile, including in Extensions and prefs.js, then added back my filter subscriptions and pasted in all custom filters from the previous one.

Spoke too soon. All that crap is back. Don't understand why it isn't happening from the old profile. Same subscriptions. At least now I have blocked all the spammy images, but the spam links remain. No idea how to get rid of them. When I disallow the site from NoScript, they all disappear. But of course doing that makes the site non-functional.

Seeing a number of .js items among blockable items.

Update: not sure what this means, but just threw one of those obfuscated spam links to SpamCop. The reporting address is abusefbl@photobucket.com.

EDIT: photobucket owns tinypic. That isn't going to lead anywhere.

Code: Select all

tinypic.com##.gbqfwa
the first filter hides the sponsored content

Code: Select all

tinypic.com##.gbqfwaabe.mdeyheadline_5
the second filter hides the word sponsored content hope it works

Didn't hide the word "sponsored content." Maybe different filter needed? But at least the spam links are gone. Thanks.

I misspoke. The second one did nuke the word "sponsored content." Just tried on a different computer, and it's working there. Will have to go back to the other one later and see what's up with that.

Very cool. Many thanks for that.

I already posted these filters:

Code: Select all

##[class$="_image_holder"]
##[class$="_label_box"]
##[class*="mdeyheadline_"]
Did you try them ?

Thanks for the help, but no they didn't help. The ones jonnymoon96 gave me did the trick for removing the spam text links and the word "sponsored content." Before that, I was finally able to remove the spam images with a filter from "blockable items." Don't know why, but couldn't do that directly from "Block image," even though it was the same filter as in "blockable items." Anyway, all that crap is gone now.

EDIT: and you will be interested to know that updating EasyList just now removed the last remnants of all that garbage, the open area where all that junk used to located. Looking good now.
