Malvertising affects 10 million

Post by Jacks »

An interesting read for those who seek to deemphasize the role of adblockers in security setups:

Invincea researcher Pat Belcher also probed the campaign and dubbed June the "worst month on record for malvertising".

Sites serving malicious adverts included:

• Drudgereport.com
• CBSSports.com
• Yahoo.com
• Livestrong.com
• eBay UK
• Verizon FiOS homepage
• PerezHilton.com
• ViralNova.com
• Glenn Beck’s TheBlaze.com

And who pays to recover encrypted files from ransomware infected machines? The websites who served the malicious adverts? The advertisers who host them? Or the end user who's often shamed into not protecting themselves from these threats?

This issue is what got me interested in ad-blocking, more than 5 years ago.
There's a buzzin' in my brain I really can't explain; I think about it before they make me go to bed.
