Can't Play Salon.com Video with AdBlock Plus Enabled

Post by mikea01730 »

All,

When I try to play any video at http://www.salon.com/ent/video_dog I'm unable to do so with Adblock Plus enabled. I see "Transferring data from www.salon.com" for about a minute, but then nothing else happens. The video plays fine when Adblock Plus is disabled. I use the EasyElement and EasyList filters.

Does anyone know what I need to do to be able to play this without disabling Adblock Plus?

Thanks,
Mike

It plays fine for me. I use all 3 easylist subs.

Do you have noscript installed? If so try disabling it but leaving ABP enabled and see if it will play. Sometimes the two together can cause odd things to happen. Just a thought.

It's not working here, Dogg.

The ad flv file in the video embedding itself is being blocked. I am going to try a new whitelist for this problem. Should work now. Added:

Maybe you are getting a different ad feed than we are? The video itself is not affected .. the beginning "flv" ad won't start because it is blocked here.

IceDogg, I do run NoScript but the problem is the same whether or not it's enabled.

rick752, I updated my subscription but the problem still happens. (That should fix it if you added to the whitelist, right? Or did you mean to put the actual entry in your post so I could add it manually to my whitelist? I'm new here and just want to make sure I understand what you're saying.)

It should be there now. Are you using the "EasyList + EasyElement" combination subscription? If you are, it may take an hour to update. The stand-alone EasyList is instant.

There should be a whitelist called:
@@RealMedia/*.flv|$other

rick752,

That did it. Thanks for the quick assistance.
