Java popups

Post by adum »

Have you seen this article in Slashdot about Java popups which can not be avoided, killed or closed, as denounced by Giorgio Maone?

I have visited his demo page and apart from disable Java globally or using NoScript, you can avoid them with Adblockplus, obviously not the first time you find them, but for next times (not to prevent viruses, but ads based in this Java bug).

The demo does not seem to work on my computer.
It says my firefox does not support Liveconnect, is that because I do not have Java installed?

Yes, the popup (and the possible malicious attack) only works if you have Java enabled (and obviously installed). I prefer to have Java disabled by default but a lot of people dont do so.

Yea, I don't even have it installed. I have never found a real need for it.

Hmmm I have not tested this but I imagine another way to at least make these popups defeatable is combining this: http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/9278/11823465ru4.jpg
with this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3881
