AB stopped working for CNN
I've been using Adblock for quite sometime now and it worked wonders for CNN. But now for some random reason it won't play the videos on CNN. So I have to disable it every time I want to see a video on the page. Before it would block the ads perfectly and play the video but now it won't play anything. Any help on how to figure it out would be great, Ima noob no lies.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: AB stopped working for CNN
it's working here using easylist
for example I can see this video: http://edition.cnn.com/videos/us/2015/0 ... ooting.cnn
Can you watch that above ?
-provide some details: ABP version, chrome version, filter lists (click ABP icon, options, "filter lists" tab see which lists are enabled)
-are you using other blocking extensions ? (ghostery, disconnect, other adblockers)

Same thing here. It started yesterday. Video never loads. Disable ABP and it loads.
ABP: 1.8.12
Chrome: 41.0.2272.118 m
Filter Lists: EasyList & Adblock Warning Removal List
No other blocking extensions or programs running

Oops, forgot to give the url for mapx. Here it is: http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/10/us/south- ... index.html
Re: AB stopped working for CNN
I can confirm this report, (and it also affects Firefox from what I see, but in slightly different ways, which I haven't been able to pin down. It does appear to not allow videos to play in Firefox as well, but seems to also have some other odd behavior, such as not blocking some ads, but blocking others. As I said I can't pin down the Firefox issue, but I never use Firefox, and only loaded it to find out why Chrome was not working. I would assume this affects Safari and IE versions as well, but I have not tested those).
For the AB devs: I believe this has to do with yesterday's change, whereby CNN has added a mandatory 30 second advertisement video to EVERY video on their site. So rather than simply playing the video of choice for any news article, video story, iReport, etc., the video pre-loaded, is an advertisement, and whatever story selected is only allowed after one views that mandatory advertisement.
Since AB is able to distinguish between a video that is an advertisement, and a regular video, AB appears to be blocking the ad, thus, making the entire (and now, all CNN videos) video inaccessible.
I'm sure it will be sorted out quickly, but it seemed nobody had understood this relationship (yet.) This only began yesterday with CNN's addition of this "ad first" practice.

Re: AB stopped working for CNN
Only in the last few days have Videos stopped loading in CNN. Finally I found a cause and effect when disabling AB Plus in Pale Moon/Firefox. What I can't find is how to configure AB Plus for CNN only, as other News Service's Videos play.
Re: AB stopped working for CNN
test this filter
Code: Select all

I can confirm that this filter fixed the problem, at least in Chrome. Thanks mapx!mapx wrote:test this filterCode: Select all

It has also fixed the issue for me, in Chrome. Thank you!thefish2010 wrote:I can confirm that this filter fixed the problem, at least in Chrome. Thanks mapx!mapx wrote:test this filterCode: Select all

Re: AB stopped working for CNN
Filter corrects issue on CNN on Chrome only. Tried this on my preferred browser Firefox 37.0.1 and it doesn't work--videos will still not load with AB enabled and new filter added!! Hope someone can sort this out soon--this really makes you realize how little fun the internet can be with intrusive advertising!
Re: AB stopped working for CNN
-the same filter works fine in firefox.
-disable - if any - other blocking addons (ghostery, disconnect, noscript) and test again

Re: AB stopped working for CNN
-if still does not work submit an issue report and then post here the report link
-add to the report the addons too

Re: AB stopped working for CNN
Thanks very much for the reply. Still not working on Firefox. I'm kind of new at this but here's what I did in Firefox:
Clicked ABP icon in upper right corner
--Selected Filter Preferences
--Clicked Custom Filters
--Clicked Add Filter Group
--Cut and pasted this @@||turner.com/xslo/cvp/ads/freewheel/bundles/2/AdManager.swf$domain=cnn.com filter
Tried opening CNN, all ads are blocked but video still will not play.
Also submitted issue report here: https://reports.adblockplus.org/544f53d ... ab7c71c403
PS No other blocking add ons have been added to Firefox.
If you can help me troubleshoot this I'd be eternally grateful! I hate Chrome!! PS Figured out a fix for this--please see my next post on page 2......
