Can ADP block flash?

Post by fang5566 »

When I surf in the Internet and browse webpages, somtimes I am annoy by the flash on the web. They sometimes make my firefox become non-responsable and 100% usage of CPU.I have tried flashblock, and it's really good. But it only provides all flash block not certain flash block. Also,it can only remove a flash temporarily, and after refresh the pages, it still come out.I just want a permanent block of them.I'm always using ADP,but I can't find it possible to block the flash.I mean when I right click on the flash, what comes out is the context menu of Macromedia Flash, not the firefox context menu.So how can I block flash like that?

I have a flash media player on my side that plays music when anyone goes to my site. Adblock is blocking my flash player and won't let me add the flash player back even if I have it disabled... help?

Unless you really mean Adblock and not Adblock Plus - Adblock is known to kill Flash objects in some situations, regardless of whether they are actually blocked.

Flash still not blocked

I have Adblock Plus, with the option for showing tabs on Flash and Java checked, but most of the time, no tab appears on Flash ads.

These animated ads are the MOST annoying!

That's all well and good, but it's somewhat of a pain in the a**. Because on say a newspaper website, every page has a flash object in it, and you only ever block that ONE flash. Meaning EVERY SUBSEQUENT page still has a flash object in it.

Is there a way to block ALL flash objects listed under a single website? Say www.smh.com.au ?

That's what wildcards are for - take the address of this flash object and replace the part that changes with a star symbol (*) and you have your universal filter.

You could also do this:

Code: Select all

.smh.com.au$object

(edited)
... but blocking ALL flash on a site could have undesirable consequences. Most all of the ads that are being served there are through:

Code: Select all

http://ffxcam.
or
.fairfax.com
... so blocking just .smh.com.au would only get some things there.

Btw, I don't see the Flash ads on this page - seems like the filter */ads/* already takes care of them.

There are flash ads there Wladimir:

But you may have the iframes blocked already. The flash is served from serving-sys.com.

Unblock the iframes and they will come through.

@ Wladimir:

I thought that maybe you didn't SEE any 'objects' in the blockable items list. I have no 'objects' at all on that site in the blockable items list because the iframes themselves are blocked preventing the other ...

... ah never mind. :P

righteo, I'm certainly not an 'accomplished' user of adblock. I normally just right click on adds and block them, or block the objects. I'll try and do a couple of the things you say....

.smh.com.au$object
etc
