Helping to translate adblockplus.org

Post by p_hill »

Hi there!

We are continuously optimizing our website at https://adblockplus.org and thus depend on getting translations for our changes. Although our team is already quite diverse when it comes to their mother tongue, we lack quite some languages, even quite widespread ones like French. To improve faster, we kindly invite every user with more than 5 posts to log in at our website and help translating: ?a=login Pages that are not completely translated yet are marked as such at the top after login and switching to the respective language, hovering the little Plus-icon in the top right corner gives you the menu to either "translate" the rest of the displayed language or add a "new translation" (language).

The languages with the least pages translated in descendant order are:
hu (Hungarian)
pt_BR (Portuguese - Brazil)
bg (Bulgarian)
lt (Lithuanian)
ar (Arabic)
he (Hebrew)
sk (Slovak)
nl (Dutch)
ru (Russian)
es (Spanish)
zh_TW (Chinese - Taiwan / traditional)
zh_CN (Chinese - China / simplified)
de (German)
fr (French)
ko (Korean)

Pages with the least languages in descendant order are:

Hi, we are currently still in the transition phase form our old website system Anwiki to our new own content management system. Unfortunately, translations haven't been finalized technically. In short however, we will be able to host all translations of the website via Crowdin, where we already have all our product translations.
Stay tuned,

Philip

I would still put my bets on this year, but no longer on something more specific despite hoping it could still land within this quarter.

Nice ! I have started French translation.
What if we detect some mistakes in original messages, not mispellings but difference between normally-the-same-messages ?

Everyone please note that some of the content on the website will be replaced with a help center, hopefully in the near future.

For this reason, please, we suggest not to spend too much time on this project and wait until we can notify of which pages will remain on the website after the hep center is completely finished.

I felt bad each time I sent people willing to contribute to Babelzilla. It was very obvious that 90% of the time they wouldn’t figure out how to use it. Locale code ambiguity made things significantly worse: e.g. Babelzilla allowed an Italian locale to use both it and it-IT as the locale code, a “feature” that caused lots of confusion among translators with duplicate translations created all the time.
