Installation successful

Post by KAS »

Since latest Adblock Plus update I get a new tab opened with "Installation Successful" every time I open Microsoft Edge. In the tab the following message is displayed.

"It seems that an issue caused all filters to be removed and we were unable to restore a backup. Therefore we had to reset your filters and Acceptable Ads settings. Please check your filter lists and Acceptable Ads settings in the Adblock Plus options."

I confirm the settings but they do not appear to be stored and the error message appears next time the browser is opened.

Simplest solution appears to be to remove Adblock Plus.

I have precisely the same problem. At present the only ways around it appear to be (1)Close the tab, (2)uninstall AdBlock Plus completely and wait for a stable version or (3)uninstall and use another ad blocking tool. Hopefully they're paying attention to these bug reports!

Same problem here, every time Edge starts the same message: "Het lijkt erop dat door een probleem alle filters zijn verwijderd, en we konden geen back-up terugzetten. Hierdoor hebben we al uw filters en instellingen voor Acceptabele advertenties moeten herinitialiseren. Controleer uw filterlijsten en instellingen voor Acceptabele advertenties in de Adblock Plus-opties." Norting helps. Removing Add-in and removing All Filters also won't work. It went buggy someweher last few days. I'm using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, latest Add-in 0.9.12 and Microsoft Edge 44.17763.1.0/Microsoft EdgeHTML 18.17763.

Uninstalling AdBlock Plus, clearing cookies and reinstalling makes no difference.

Installed development build and bug NOT fixed.

DEV Build works properly. ;-) How to handle if new GA Build is available? Uninstall DEV en reinstall GA or will it update automatically?

@antaljanssen We will announce when the standard build is updated. At that time, you can remove the dev build and reinstall Adblock Plus. I'll also keep you posted here.

Me too and its really annoying. It also says "you just took control of your browser" which is a real joke since ABP just did and I cant get rid of it. Are they putting a cookie on our browsers right before we use them so we can be tracked??

PS I dont have microsoft edge and dont know what it is. Also its way into march now and I'm only just seeing this anbnoying bug after an udate (I didn't even ask for) for firefox. So now every time I open the browser I have to shut the ABP tab down and then clear the cookies with the browser still open in the hopes that I'm getting rid of any possible ABP tracking cookies, so its wasting my time sometimes several times a day

Installation successful

I have the same problem with the installation successful screen showing up on every browser launch.

Here is my config:

Windows 10 Pro
Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299

Firefox Quantum
66.0.2 (64-bit)

Webroot SecureAnywhere 9.0.24.49

I also run the free version of Spybot Search and Destroy and let it "immunize" my system

The Install Successful screen started showing up about 3 weeks ago. I didn't actively make any system changes, but most of my software is on autoupdate, so not sure what might have updated itself.

@MrAndy and @David0001

Thanks for making us aware! We are actually investigating this issue currently and hope to have a resolution soon. We're working with Firefox developers to get to the bottom of this. If you're up for it...... please can you send a zipped (or similar) copy of your Adblock Plus storage folder to us at dave@adblockplus.org

How do I find my Adblock Plus storage folder?

You must first find the Internal UUID for Adblock Plus. Here’s how:

1.Open a new Firefox Tab
2.Navigate to about:debugging#addons
3.Take note of the Internal UUID for the Adblock Plus extension

Continue the steps below to locate the Adblock Plus storage folder
4.Open new Firefox Tab
5.Navigate to about:support
6.Under the Application Basics section find Profile Folder
7.Click Show in Finder or Open Folder
8.In the file manager window, navigate to the storage folder
9.Open the default folder
10.Look for the folder named something like “moz-extension++++UUID” UUID is replaced with the UUID you noted in the first steps. This is your storage folder.

How can I make a zipped copy of the folder?

Windows:

1.Right click on your Adblock Plus storage folder
2.Select Send to
3.Compressed (zipped) folder

Mac:
1.Right Click
2. Select Compress

Important notes

1. Please close Firefox completely (all windows) before creating a copy of your Adblock Plus storage folder.

2. Please create a copy of your storage folder before trying things like reinstalling Firefox or Adblock Plus. If you have already reinstalled, please only share your storage folder with us if the problem is still present.

3. If you cannot find the Adblock Plus storage folder as described, check your Firefox version. The issue that we are investigating does not happen on versions of Firefox before 66, for those the folder won’t be present.
