Whitelist not working if site has sub-domain

Post by vegasrider »

I've been trying to get this working for a month, the issue can be reproduced on all 4 of my ios devices running latest ios version and latest adblock version
iOS 10.2.1 (14D27)
ABP v 1.1.0
Last Fiter list update January 28, 2017 at 11:29am PST

I own 2 websites. Both sites use DFP ad server and run an identical ad setup from the same DFP account. Both sites run the same CMS system. They are essentially identical software and ad server setups on both sites. So the issue is not related to the specific ads.

xladv.com (whitelist works and allows ads to show)

Code: Select all

http://www.thumpertalk.com
(whitelist does not work)

The only difference between two websites is one site uses www in the domain and the other site doesn't. The site with www is the one where ads won't whitelist. When I add the domain

Code: Select all

http://www.thumpertalk.com
to the whitelist in ios app, upon save the www is stripped and the saved setting ands up being just the root domain thumpertalk.com I'm assuming the issue is in someway related to the url mismatch caused by the www, but that's pure speculation. I've even tried adding *.thumpertalk.com to the whitelist and it does not work.

As I said, I've reproduced the issue on 4 devices and have removed and reinstalled adblock several times to clear any bad settings. Please help. This is causing a financial impact for our site and frustrated users. As I'm sure you know, most websites exist solely on ad revenue. And like many other sites we ask regular users of our site to whitelist us. Users are frustrated when they have whitelisted our site, but continue to get prompted to repeat the process because it didn't work.

I keep trying to add sites - primarily newspapers and journalism sites to the whitelist but it just doesn't work, I don't want to block unobtrusive ads on these sites, I want them to be able to make an income from the advertising but they're not because adblocker is indiscriminate even when you tell it to except things. I don't know how to tell adblocker this either apart from post here in the forums which I suspect they're not going to trawl through anyway.
