I'm not sure what these are called (so far, all my searching has been for naught, since I don't know the proper term) but I'll try to describe it.
Many websites are using some form of scripting (I am not a coder, I don't know the script language) to do an in-page popup essentially. They grey out the page, and slide a pane over everything, with a small 'close window' button somewhere.
I want to categorically block this, I can think of absolutely no exception where this annoying tool is used for anything but advertising or attention-grabbing.
Suggestions?
sidenote: I have a saved screenshot for illustration, but haven't a good idea for a server to share it.
Pseudo-Popup
Re: Pseudo-Popup
You can block/hide most of them using the Element Hiding Helper addon and using the "Blockable Items Window" in the ABP addon,
you will have to be careful to block or hide the correct code/element.
Alternatively you can subscribe to Fanboy's Annoyance list and report unblocked in page popups in the forum
