[fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
Hi,
Msnbc has a new format, and I *think* a new player. I'm not all that savvy on these issues, just to be fair. I'm a DBA, not a video person.
ABP used to work (a week ago). Now, if ABP is enabled, the ads don't show, but neither does anything else. I've tried eevery combination of turning on/off ABP during, before, after videos and it simply appears that MSNBC has a way of stopping ABP from working in any manner.
If they would change the commercials they play, it wouldn't be all that bad, but there is only one commercial, and it plays after every video segment !!!! I HARE XEROX!!!
Please please please tell me there is some way to make this stop. I was so happy with ABP working to relieve me of the Aveeno commercials and all that noise.

Re: MSNBC not working with ABP
Still working on it, but I've got a video working with the following,
Code: Select all
@@||msads.net^$domain=msnbc.msn.com
@@||rad.msn.com/ADSAdClient31.dll?*$domain=msnbc.msn.com
Re: MSNBC not working with ABP
Added the following to the fanboy subscription
Unfortunately there will be some video ads, but without the whitelists the videos completely break.

Code: Select all
@@||rad.msn.com/ADSAdClient31.dll?$domain=msnbc.msn.com
@@||ads2.msads.net^*.swf$domain=msnbc.msn.com,object_subrequest
Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
Would you please provide a link to a problematic video? Every one that I have watched has played without any issues or adverts.
Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
@Michael As mentioned in a previous thread one example of a problematic video is http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/
@Fanboy thanks for looking into it. Please let us know if you come up with any better/more specific filters.

Added to EasyList (https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/cc62b05c4459 and https://hg.adblockplus.org/easylist/rev/e7cdb70c66e5)

Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
Gentlemen:
I see that folk(s) are working on the problem, which makes me glad. But I don't understand the chatter. I don't know what EasyList is, and certainly don't understand the entries that are being made.
Will the result of this effort be a "fixpack" like download, or a download of any sort? Or will I (we) need to somehow edit a config file or something to incorporate the changes that will allow us to watch these fine programs ad-free?
I'm a DBA, not a hacker (someone who codes, not the nefarious meaning) so the easier the solution the better.
I certainly appreciate all the effort that is occurring.

Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
Ok,
Reading that link seems to imply that ABP will "automagically" be updated as Easylist (for example) subscription is updated. In my case, I appear to have fanboy's list in the mix, and he is the one who is so graciously attempting to fix the MSNBC problem. I did an "'update" from the appropriate screen, so I'm assuming it should work. I guess I just have to test it now, and if it dunn't werq, wait for a further update?

Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
And.... the test failed. Xerox is still poisoning my brain with their adverts. Will no one rid me of this troublesome company?
Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
Fanboy has already explained the situation...

Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
EasyList is currently preventing videos from playing at all - except the commercials...
Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
The video works when I view it using EasyList. When did you last update your subscriptions?
Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
I have a different problem; the first advertisement plays just fine, but then it just stops at the end of the ad. The actual news videos never play at all. It's as if ABP is doing the exact opposite; letting through the advertisements, but blocking the news.
Re: [fp] MSNBC not working with ABP
All I can say is that the video content eventually loads when I view http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/. If someone would please provide a list of items that need to be removed or are incorrectly blocked I will adjust the subscription according to the reports; however, it is very difficult to resolve this issue when I do not encounter any problems personally.
