Washington Monthly Popup

Post by jhaber3 »

A few days ago, this site added a popup window that opens every time one visits. I actually don't know what it contains, since presumably it's an ad that AdBlock Plus blocks. But any idea how to get rid of it? If there's one thing worse than an embedded ad, it's a popup. Thanks! http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/

This should help (via annoyances list)

Could you explain that a little further? I already have easy list and fanboy annoyance list. Your link: is that code I copy into the filter somehow?

The pop-over loads once every 24 hours, not every time one visits the site. It is a reminder of our holiday fundraising efforts, has a quick "close" button, and will be taken down on January 1.

I understand what you're saying, and I understand your needs as well. But I'll rest on the principle that ads are permissible, while automatic popup windows are offensive.

Don't know if you're still out there, but I have a new computer, and that offensive pop-up is back. (If Washington Monthly is trying to turn away users, it's sure coming close.)

At the time, fanboy said simply to update my lists (presumably by clicking on a list, selecting "filer preferences," and then choosing "update"). At present, with my new install on a new computer, I don't have an explicit entry for Fanboy's Annoyance List, but I've read that it's merged with Easy List, so I updated that. It hasn't helped. (I also see that my installation comes with Adblock Warning Removal List, new to me.)

Suggestions, please?

fanboy's annoyances list is not included in easylist, is a separate list.

Thanks very much. We'll see if it does the trick.
