Invitation to EasyList "supplemental subscription"

Post by rick752 »

(republished from EasyList Forum)

For this New Year, I have been thinking long and hard on something.

The EasyList has been VERY successful as a Global, U.S., and English-language subscription. There are also at least a half dozen of other 'support' subscriptions out there (some are not even listed on ABP's subscription list) that deal with targeted counties/languages. I have had hardly any interaction with some of these authors as they only submit their lists to Wladimir most of the time claiming to be an EasyList 'supplemental' subscription (or just do it independently on the web). I also do not want to deal with languages that I don't understand either and would like to 'pass them off' to someone else that would be more of a user of those sites.

After some 'growing pains' on the EasyList forum (the old server host server sucked), we have just changed host servers and the new host server is fantastic! The EasyList Forum site now runs great (thanx to Lanik ... my forum owner). Any of the members there knows how crappy that has been working the last few months. But fixed as of this weekend

... so here is a proposition for all EasyList supplemental authors:

I want to bring all supplemental authors together in one place so we would be able to talk about the subscription interactions and share knowledge, ideas, and support. In return, I will supply any 'EasyList support" subscription author with an entire forum category which would visible on the main page (and not just a post) on my forum in return. I will also make you full Moderator of your own category. I realize that some of you may have your own forum already (but some don't) ... but still, it doesn't hurt to do support in more than one place either. I do it all the time ... ABP, EasyList, Mozillazine, DSL Reports ... Others that DON'T have a support forum would now have one.

I would also welcome any author that would like to create, host, and maintain an Easylist Supplemental filter that would not contain general English-speaking and global blocks (that includes many duplications already used in the EasyList). The filters would need to be 'unique' to what the EasyList blocks. I want to get rid of any non-English language filters from the EasyList and allow other (more knowledgeable) authors to make supplemental lists to to mine instead. There are already a few of you out there that I know just make subscriptions for your own country/language and use the EasyList for the global blocks. The thing I am most interested in is country/language support (as I only know English). But I would also consider any other 'specialty' support subscription that is not covered by the EasyList (porn for example?).

I brought this to this forum because (strangely enough) most of the EasyList support subscription authors are not members of the EasyList Forum (I don't think they all are even part of THIS forum either). It's kind of weird .. don't you think? So I reserve the right to accept/reject what I deem as actually a "supplemental" subscription there (I already have accepted some) :)

So now it is time to try and tidy these things up. This offer is strictly for EasyList "supplemental" authors only. PM-ing me would be the best way of contact.

No.

It's more like that there are already authors that create other language additions as EasyList supplement subscriptions (French, Romamnian, Dutch, Russian, Chinese, etc). It would be nice if THEY could take care of those specific additions instead of people asking me to add them to the EasyList. Doing it in the same place would be convenient to everyone involved.

There is no sense loading up ONE subscription with blocking for sites that any given country/language will never use. There are already other authors making them for the EasyList. It would be nice if users could just add the general, global list and select just the supplemental ones that they need. The supplemental filters are made by authors that understand the language and also surf those sites. I don't understand Chinese and others. I've been asked to remove ads on some pages that I can't understand the language (my favorite lately has been Israeli). How would I know which one is an ad?

I'm just trying to get them together to give them a place to work with mine as I don't even know some of them.
