IE pop-ups in Firefox

Post by wogger92 »

Sorry if this is re-tread.
My Firefox has been operating fine until recently (the last week)when I started receiving "CiD" or IE pop-ups every minute or two(damn Bill Gates). I've just downloaded Adblock Plus to upgrade the Adblock I've had running for a long time now.
Q. How do I get rid of these crappy pop-ups coming in through CiD or IE?
Thanks,
Newbie.

Well, as you said yourself, those are IE popups - so they have nothing
to do with Firefox, so installing things in Firefox won't help.

You probably caught some spyware/adware/evil stuff.

Maybe try Spybot-S&D? http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Firefox can be considered an attack vector for the OS, and has had some exploits that have been taken advantage of. Additionally, there is always an option to use social engineering to have the user install malicious tools.

Long story short: There is no such thing as a free lunch, and any site that asks you to install anything shouldn't be trusted.

Oh, and keep your browser up to date - downloading the latest Firefox is less of a hassle than re-installing Windows. I know. I've done both countless times.

I do recommend BleepingComputer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/), especially their getting started post (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34773.html). The volunteers there are regularly helpful to anyone who posts a log, it's a great community.

CiD is a nasty little b*astard. I found the best fix I could for you. It takes a little work, but it seems easy to follow:
