Video streaming ads

I've seen somewhere that before I was allowed to watch a video on the web, I was forced to watch an advert.

I havn't had it happen to me in ages and was wondering, does ABP block them?

Speaking for my own subscriptions, if you are using the EasyList, then "yes" there are many instances where this does work ... especially since the release of Firefox 2.0.0.4. That release allowed some extra ABP 'tricks'.

Anyway of getting rid of it?

edit: ffs, worse more, I can't actually see this particular desired video I want to watch.

I will take a look. It depends on the internal elements of the clips. Some can be removed that allows the clip to start without the ad. Some may still run the alloted time with the ad missing before it runs the clip. If the latter happens, the video will be blank during the time that the ad would be running ... so you would think that the video wasn't working.

Like I said, it depends. You can try blocking some of the blockable item 'types' that are designated as "other". These are usually the 'parts' inside a video or flash feed.

ps: I just realized the you are using Seamonkey. The bug has not been fixed in Seamonkey that allows you to see/block items in ABP that are defined as "other". If you don't see anything like that in the blockable items list, then what you are trying to do will NOT be possible in Seamonkey. This bug was fixed in the latest Firefox 2.0.0.4 and only works in that version (thanx to Wladimir writing the fix for Firefox himself and having Mozilla implement it)

Rick, SeaMonkey 1.1.2 has the same version of Gecko as Firefox 2.0.0.4 - they can both block requests initiated by Flash objects.

I didn't even realize that there WAS a 1.1.2

I guess it just shows how much I use Seamonkey .... updating now.
