[yes, I searched the forums]
I've a few rules in ABP to deal with some of the MySpace.com ads - however, they often creep through. I tried studying the source of the page, and they're doing some kind of redirection.
You would think that if the URL is:
http://host.myspacec.com/07_02/blah/blah/...
that I could block at the 07_02/* level, but it doesn't work.
They use a few different URL paths to deliver ads, some of them appear to be template-driven *.swf files, which pull content from places like http://www.foxatomic.com. Even if I block http://www.foxatomic.com/* those still get through.
So, it would seem fair to presume that MySpace is clever enough to create their content to get around our filters.
While I continue to study this and form a solution, I wonder if someone else has had better luck.
Thanks.
MySpace Ads continue to creep through
The URLs that have the flash banners that stream from www.foxatomic.com and www.match.com continue to sneak through, even if I block the base path that they're being redirected from, and even if I block http://www.foxatomic.com/*
It seems random. Sometimes they sneak through, sometimes they don't. I can't explain it. I can only surmise there to be some clever things going on with their javascript.

Here's one of the URLs that made it through:
http://lads.myspace.com/07_01/*
or the end-site:
http://www.match.com/*
Things still get through.
Even if I block part of the root, such as:
http://lads.myspace.com/07_01/*
or the end-site:
http://www.match.com/*
Things still get through.
Try this one and let me know:
*edit .... Are you using any subscriptions? I can't find anything coming through there with my two.
Code: Select all
lads.myspace.com/*BannerID
I haven't seen an ad there in quite a while, but because I don't know what you are using or not using in your filters, I really can't help. Are you using my EasyList & EasyElement subscriptions? If not, click my signature link below and add both of them ... at least that will tell me if somehow I have missed something there. I am a registered myspace user (just for finding problems).forrie wrote:I'm trying to track this down, but it seems whatever I put in there is blocking the "edit profile" section.
I'm guessing (but I could be wrong) there is some clever javascript in there that ties this all together.
I certainly haven't seen anything "clever" there yet .... only "un-clever" page templates that are, in themselves, a total coding mess!

ps: My profile there works fine.
