Just FYI, ABP is able to block "object subrequests"; also, at least on Chrome, it is able to use the webRequest API to redirect instead of cancelling requests, and an idea I was toying around with for a while was redirection to "null" content (like minimal valid .mp4 and .avi and even .swf files), building on what the experimental webRequest builds once did (redirecting blocked images to a 1x1-pixel transparent GIF, and blocked HTML content to about:blank, which Gundlach's AdBlock still does).asdf wrote:What about building our own ad server, redirecting the requests to it, and serving a blank, zero second ad?
There are probably limits to how well this would work, considering that a year ago or so, Michael Gundlach tested it on Hulu and found he needed to make the replacement MP4 file several seconds long before the Hulu player would think it was an ad: http://support.getadblock.com/discussio ... t_29189697
