Amazon Drop Down Box

Post by allowingtoo »

I've tried blocking the annoying new drop down box that Amazon has implemented on their website to no avail. When I block it, it also blocks the Buy button. I emailed them and asked them about it and their replay was that it is:

"I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions regarding website information originating from Alexa.
We introduced this feature so that individuals using our web search feature would be presented with the opportunity to discover related items of interest."

So it's an additional tracking feature they introduced. If I view the image I see:

div.ma_goto.ma-title

div.ptContainer

Is there any way to block this? Thanks, Laura

Really? You need a link to Amazon? Every item I click on, when I start scrolling down on the page, the drop down box appears. It doesn't happen until you start scrolling down on the page - and then it is in the upper right hand corner of your screen. It recedes back when you scroll back to the top of page. That's what it advertises itself to be - a link to take you back to the top of the page. Not exactly what Amazon promised in their email. Instead, when I Googled Alexa, I figured Amazon uses it as they said in their email: to recommended "related items of interest". No thanks.

If you add this, does it help?

Code: Select all

amazon.com##.mini-atf

Would that be under Exception Rules or AdBlocking Rules?

And would it have those little symbols before it?

Well, I'm not running Ghostery or NoScript. Just AdBlock Plus with Fanboy's Adblock Plus List, Fanboy's Tracking List, Easy List, and Peter Lowe's List.

Success - I think. I forgot about the Element Hiding. I downloaded that and it seems to work.

amazon.com##.ptContainer

I no longer see it.

Every time I visit Amazon it adds another hit to the Element Hiding Rule in the Filter Preference Box.

If you add the Annoyance Filter, it should be also gone

Yes that works great! I tried it on another computer that I had not done anything with! Thank you! That's a handy little PayPal button too :)
