On http://www.cnn.com/, opening that page generally works fine up until a week or so ago when they implemented a new drop down annoyance.
At the top of the page is essentially the standard giant red CNN banner with a set of "tabs" immediately below (Home, Video, NewsPulse, etc.). Upon loading CNN.com, everything is generally fine for about 15 seconds if your mouse is below that set of "tabs". If you roll the cursor over those tabs, a scrolling frame-like deal opens up where you can select some of their top stories. There is a "collapse" link on the far right.
Unfortunately, even if you don't scroll the cursor over it, it still slides open about 15 seconds later. It definitely reduces the performance in that the browser will hesitate when opening it and, when you least expect it, will scroll open right when you wanted to do something else reducing response time until you move on.
It also opens every time you move forward to a story and back to the main page. Why it has to happen every time I don't know.
Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what elements to block here? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert
Unable to stop CNN's new drop down
Re: Unable to stop CNN's new drop down
I searched /w ABP's 'blockable elements' for collapse and noted several awesomebar lines. So I let ABP suggest a rule to block and got this one:
||i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/img/3.0/main/awesomebar/*
Seems to help. YMMV
