Facepunch forums blocking adblock

Post by Forged »

Hello. I discovered today that if I have AdBlock enabled, I cannot post to facepunch forums (http://www.facepunch.com). I can post if I'm quoting someone, but it ignores any text I type. Also cannot send PMs, as it ignores text typed into the box. As soon as AdBlock is disabled and Firefox is restarted, the site works normally.

What subscription are you using ?

If you provide a disposable username and password I (or someone else) will have a look and see if the problem can be reproduced and hopefully fixed.

Yeah, I'm using Easylist USA, but I got it working by enabling NoScript. I don't like NoScript because it disables a ton of functionality on a ton of sites. But apparently facepunch uses a javascript method of detecting ABP.

Know of a way to fix that without outright denying all js? :\

It is possible you can block the script responsible with ABP but I'd have to have a look for myself.

Might be an EasyList problem because using the account details you gave me I was able to make a post.

I hope that was not your proper account because I was banned
You have been banned for the following reason:
Test

Date the ban will be lifted: 8th March 2010, 02:59AM

Hehe.. Probably because they spotted two IPs on the same account or something.

But it's all good. I made that account for you. :) Thanks for looking into it anyway.

They did not like my rubbish post (it was just called test and the message said test)...

Fair enough of them to give me a warning, they were quick to ban me

But as I said I was able to post using Fanboy's list.

It's because all of the images and css are in folders called /ad and /ads... on purpose so that the site is not functional if the ads are blocked.

That was fixed yesterday in Fanboy's subscription.

It was also fixed yesterday in EasyList; updating your subscriptions should resolve the issue.
