Suggest as you type: Blocking
Several sites I've visited recently are using a "Google suggest" type feature. As soon as you start typing something a list of suggested matches pops up ( www.tv.com and www.waffles.fm are two such examples). Is there any way to block this behavior?

Tools -> Options... -> Privacy -> Uncheck Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar
See if that helps you.

No, that option is for words previously entered into forms. I'm talking about words I've never typed that appear as soon as I start typing something, i.e similar to Google Suggest (http://labs.google.com/suggestfaq.html)Adblock Plus Fan wrote:Tools -> Options... -> Privacy -> Uncheck Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar

Code: Select all

I actually like this behaviour though

I have several personal filters to stop this distracting "feature". Use them on WikiPedia, Amazon, Google (though it can be easier at Google to login and set one's personal preferences). All my rules were defined using Element Hiding with some assitance from Firebug.Spaceboy wrote:Several sites I've visited recently are using a "Google suggest" type feature. A little birdy named Request Policy told me that at google's homepage, the auto-suggest is generated from clients1.google.com, clients2.google.com, or clients3.google.com. Block that crap using the latest development build and/or hosts file them or whatever.
It's my official suggestion that http://clients*.google.com/* be added to some kind of list akin to the tracker list or something.

I really should recover my password so I can edit myself...
I'm not sure exactly what filterlist my suggestion would go in, if any.
It's sort of a tracker and it's sort of a privacy issue simultaneously. In order to turn off google suggest normally you'd need to set a cookie to turn if off (it's opt-out), so it affects anonymity. On the other hand there are plenty of adblock users who will use the suggest feature on google itself, so it may not be a good idea to put it on any current subscription.
I guess we'd have to create like an uber-privacy subscription? but you may as well just turn cookies off. Meh.
