Ads that take over the whole page!

Post by Mr. Me »

How do I block them.. You know the ones that take over and you have to click a continue button to continue to where you were. The address in the address bar does not change so I dont know how to block them.

I cant provide an example coz the just appear out of nowhere! usually in forum sites.

If it helps, they always appear in this site for instance: http://joox.net/

PLEASE HELP!

I don't think you can do anything against those with Adblock Plus. I don't know what joox.net is doing (I don't get any of those pages there) but usually the server simply gives you a different page unless some cookie is set (or simply randomly). After you reload it gives you the correct page. I guess you need some extension that reloads the page automatically if a full-page ad is detected. But I don't know any such extension.

I've been using Joox for a little while and have yet to see anything on there with my own (JamiePlucinski.com ) Subscription no nasty ads and certainly no full page advertisements.

Is there a specific page or series of actions that will make them appear? Something tells me it's something to do with AdBrite, an advertiser that I block completely.

I saw one fade in and out once ... but couldn't recreate it again. It's odd.

Ok, I disabled ABP and booted the page a few times ... got it to appear. Man that is annoying.

I think my subscription also blocks it ... it seems like it is coming from adbrite.com

I know. It is the most frustrating thing on the net. So how exactly did you block it rick752? if they only appear when you disable ABP then you must have blocked them somehow!

Yeah I have never seen these advertisements but I do blanket block adbrite and I'm guessing that is doing the trick here from never (thankfully) seeing one of those full page advertisements.
